Pikmin 4: Release date, trailer, gameplay & Glow Pikmin

With it being so long since the last Pikmin game, the hype for Pikmin 4 keeps building as its release date closes in - along with curiosity about the latest trailer and gameplay featuring the new Glow Pikmin. So, let's get into everything there is to know so far about Pikmin 4.

When is the Pikmin 4 release date?

Thankfully, franchise fans won't have to wait for long because the Pikmin 4 release date is on Friday, 21 July 2023 on Nintendo Switch. Whilst it's still another whole month to be patient at the time of writing, it won't be too hard in comparison to the decade wait so far since the last mainline Pikmin game, Pikmin 3 on the Wii U. 

If you're feeling impatient to play, however, the Pikmin 4 demo will be available to download from the eShop on Wednesday, 28 June 2023.

Are there any Pikmin 4 trailers?

Although we've known about Pikmin 4 since a September 2022 Nintendo Direct announcement, we didn't start to see any gameplay until further Nintendo Direct trailers in 2023. Starting with a first gameplay trailer back in February, we've got a deeper look at both gameplay and the story from the above recent June 2023 trailer - which we'll talk more about below.

Pikmin 4 gameplay: What is the Glow Pikmin?

Although incorporating the same beloved gameplay basics as earlier titles, Pikmin 4 does come with some changes - like the adorably fascinating Glow Pikmin. 

To start, instead of playing as the previous franchise protagonist, Captain Olimar, you play as your own customised character who is a member of the Rescue Corps. After both Olimar and the Rescue Corps crash on a mysterious planet, it's up to you as the latter's newest member to set off and save them. 

Using Pikmin to explore, defeat enemies, solve puzzles, and collect treasures to fix the Rescue Corps' ship - along with your dog-like companion, Oatchi - you'll be able to set out on night expeditions for the first time in the Pikmin franchise. Whilst the evening does send creatures into an angry frenzy, the trusty new Glow Pikmin will drive away enemies as well as illuminate your path to safely continue your adventures.
