No Rest for the Wicked was one of the more surprising announcements of The Game Awards 2023. The next adventure and new IP coming from Moon Studios, creators of the Ori games, looks to bring some fresh ideas to the ARPG genre with weighty, almost Souls-like combat from an isometric perspective.

From the recent Wicked Inside Showcase, we now have a few more details about the game, including when you can get your hands on an early version of it. Here's everything we know so far.

Early access release date

As per the Wicked Inside Showcase, we now know that No Rest for the Wicked will be released in early access on April 18, 2024. This early access version will only be available on PC via Steam, but the game will come to other platforms at a later date.

The game will spend some time in early access, with more features added over time and changes made based on player feedback. Once the 1.0 version is ready, the game will then have its full launch on all platforms.

If you're looking to pick it up, No Rest for the Wicked will see a "special introductory price" on Steam which will knock off 10%, while you can also save a further 10% if buying through a partnered content creator's affiliate link. That's only for a fortnight after launch, though - then it'll be back to £34.99/$39.99.

No Rest for the Wicked trailer

The first trailer for the game was the official reveal trailer, which debuted at TGA 2023. It showcased a mix of cinematics and gameplay, primarily establishing the tone and feel of the game.

On March 1, the Wicked Inside Showcase gave us our first in-depth look at the game. In the showcase, Moon Studio co-founders Thomas Mahler and Gennadiy Korol talk through the game's systems, mechanics, world, and much more.

If you want to get a better grasp of what this game is, this showcase has everything you need to know.

No Rest for the Wicked is described as a precision action role-playing game with mature themes and the signature Moon Studios painterly aesthetic. The game is set on a vast island called Isola Sacra, and will feature "unmatched" verticality for the genre.

The gameplay is presented from a birds-eye-view perspective with hack 'n' slash-type combat - with a more deliberate pace. We dread to use the tired Dark Souls comparison, but the impact of Fromsoftware's gameplay innovations can be seen here.

Still, Wicked appears to blend multiple designs and ideas into a gameplay system of its own, giving players plenty of freedom to create the kind of character class they want to play.

What platforms will it be on?

No Rest for the Wicked has been confirmed for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam

As mentioned above, the PC early access version is coming very soon, but the release date for the full version of the game is yet to be unveiled.

That's everything we know so far about No Rest for the Wicked. If you're interested in more games revealed during TGA 2023, check out Monster Hunter Wilds, Arkane Lyon's take on Blade, and Hideo Kojima's OD.
