Lords of the Fallen is a challenging game, so knowing how to upgrade your healing items will help you on your journey. At the beginning of the game, you have three charges - which is absolutely nowhere near enough to progress through the whole game.

Lords of the Fallen takes place in the same world as the original 2014 game of the same name, but it is set a thousand years later when the demon God Adyr is threatening to rise again. As you explore, you'll be fighting plenty of hostile enemies and bouncing between the dual worlds of Axiom and the Umbral Realm to solve all manner of puzzles in the game.

To help you along the way, you’re going to need to know how to upgrade your healing items - also known as Sanguinarix - so read on for all you need to know.

What is the Sanguinarix in Lords of the Fallen?

The healing item in Lords of the Fallen is called Sanguinarix. Thankfully, you have this on your person from the moment the game begins, with three charges.

This is the only healing item you can obtain that can be upgraded. Although you can also find Briostones out in the world that will heal you gradually over a short period of time, they can only be used once per item.

In order to upgrade the Sanguinarix in Lords of the Fallen, you will need to talk to Pieta at Skyrest. She will offer you the chance to upgrade the Sanguinarix, as long as you have a Saintly Quintessence. You can earn Saintly Quintessence by finding them throughout the world.

The Sanguinarix cannot be upgraded until after you have faced the first main boss of the game, Pieta, She of Blessed Renewal. After this fight, she will dive off the side of the bridge and the path opens for you to go down into Skyrest, a safe area full of NPCs to chat where you will find Pieta who is no longer hostile.

And that's all you need to know about upgrading the Sanguinarix healing item in Lords of the Fallen. If you need some tips on how to block and parry we have you covered. For everything else, check out our Lords of the Fallen homepage.
