A Lollipop Chainsaw Remake was recently announced to the surprise of many gamers, with Dragami Games undertaking the process of remaking the cult classic.

Lollipop Chainsaw was a hack 'n' slash title developed by Grasshopper Manufacture and released in 2012, born between a collaboration of legendary video game director Suda51, Yoshimi Yasuda, and film writer/director James Gunn.

It's known for its vibrant visual style, erratic humour, and over-the-top gameplay, but it wasn't exactly the biggest hit upon release. The remake could certainly fix the issues that critics and players pointed out in the original, while also benefiting from a decade of video game evolution.

So check out all the information we have on the Lollipop Chainsaw Remake below.

Despite no screenshots or trailers of the Lollipop Chainsaw Remake, it's safe to assume the game will play mostly the same as the first. For those who don't know, the original plays like a hack 'n' slash, where you take on the role of a high school cheerleader called Juliet as she fights through hordes of zombies.

Combat was primarily based around Juliet's chainsaw, which could be used to enact a number of single attacks and combos. Some of the notable moves were the Chainsaw Dash, which allows you to charge forward and even fly off ramps, along with the Chainsaw Blaster, which allowed you to turn the weapon into a long-range firearm.

During missions, killing swathes of zombies, smashing certain objects, and rescuing your classmates allowed you to earn gold medals, which could be used at shops found in each level. Here you could buy new moves and combos, along with consumables that increased your stats. Killing certain amounts of zombies in quick succession would also earn you platinum medals, which could be used at the same shops for alternate costumes, music, and artwork.

Another big gameplay feature was the decapitated head of your boyfriend, Nick, which was attached to your waist. You could use special moves with Nick's head to clear tonnes of zombies, and also attach his head to zombies so you can clear the way through certain sections.

Lollipop Chainsaw Remake will have a new soundtrack

The original game featured 16 licensed musical tracks, but for this remake, it has been confirmed that it will mostly feature new music due to some issues with licensing.

The visuals will also be completely overhauled, with Yoshimi Yasuda (a producer for the game) confirming in an interview with IGN that it will feature "a more realistic approach to graphics."

The original had a hyper-stylised visual style that fit well with the comedic tone of the gameplay and story, so this may be something that fans reject when we finally see the game's new look.
