Have you come across an Alternative Levelling Path in Last Epoch but are not sure what it's all about? The name kind of gives it away, but there's a lot you should know about the Alternative Levelling Path before deciding whether or not to take this route through Last Epoch.

With that, let's review the Alternative Levelling Path and when you should and should not follow it in the hack-and-slash action role-playing game by Eleventh Hour Games.

What is an Alternative Levelling Path?

As the name implies, the Alternative Levelling Path offers Last Epoch players an alternative way to level up! Instead of slogging through the Campaign, the Alternative Levelling Path consists of Dungeons that, when completed, allow you to skip huge chunks of the Campaign.

It depends! If it's your first time playing Last Epoch, no, you should not take the Alternative Levelling Path. However, if you've already played through Last Epoch, replaying the entirety of the Campaign can feel tedious. If that's the situation you're in, opting for the Alternative Levelling Path is completely justifiable.

The Campaign is designed as a sort of tutorial for Last Epoch, so don't try to skip it outright. The Dungeons included in the Alternate Levelling Path are far more demanding than the Campaign anyway, requiring Dungeon Keys to even attempt, plus experience, solid gear, and a proper build to get through intact. On top of all that, you won't earn Passive Points or Idol Slots on the Alternative Levelling Path. Therefore, you might as well just stick to the Campaign!

The only reason to take the Alternative Levelling Path before you've completed the Campaign is if you have a friend to boost you in Co-op Multiplayer. If you're in a hurry to catch up with your buddy and truly don't care for the story, the Alternative Levelling Path may be the best choice, even if you haven't beaten the game before.

If you do decide to take the Alternative Levelling Path, ensure you're stocked with Dungeon Keys and prepared for what awaits in the Lightless Arbor, Soulfire Bastion, and Temporal Sanctum Dungeons.

So, that's how the Alternative Levelling Path works in Last Epoch. If you're new to Last Epoch, feel free to ignore the Alternative Levelling Path. But if you've beaten the Campaign a time or two, the Alternative Levelling Path offers better rewards than the Campaign and serves as a shortcut that'll let you get into endgame content faster.

There are plenty more decisions to make in Last Epoch! Check out our Last Epoch homepage for more guides, like our primer detailing whether you should join the Merchant’s Guild or Circle of Fortune.
