John Wick 5: Everything we know so far

John Wick 4 received strong critical reviews when it landed in cinemas, and since Chapters 4 and 5 of the franchise were initially said to be shot back-to-back by Lionsgate, fans will be wondering about the next entry.

John Wick Chapter 4 and Chapter 5 were originally said to be shot back to back, but that plan was later changed and as a result, we really aren't sure when the fifth instalment in the franchise will arrive.

In a mid-March 2023 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Chad Stahelski answered a comment on John Wick 5 by replying they'll be taking a break from the franchise.

"In our minds, Keanu and I are done for the moment. We’re going to give John Wick a rest", Stahelski said. 

Throughout the cinematic John Wick franchise, the worldwide box office take has more or less doubled with each instalment. So, if John Wick 4 performs as hoped, or "if everyone loves it and it goes kooky" as the director says, that's where the plans for John Wick 5 will start to take hold. 

"Keanu and I will take the long trip to Tokyo, we’ll sit in the Imperial Hotel Scotch Bar and go, 'What do you think?' We’ll have a couple 20-year-old whiskies and write some ideas on napkins. If those ideas stick, maybe we’ll make a movie", Stahelski elaborates. 

As the interview also touches on, the various additional projects Chad Stahelski has going are most likely a large part of the reason the stuntman-turned-film director wants to take a break from John Wick.

Along with directing film adaptations of the Ghost of Tsushima and Rainbow Six video game franchises, Stahelski's other projects in the works include the currently-in-production John Wick spin-off, Ballerina, being attached as producer.

Since we've yet to see John Wick 4, any members of John Wick 5 cast is anyone's guess - including the namesake character, since death seems to unpredictably take hold of certain characters with each entry.

On the other hand, since director Chad Stahelski has already mentioned eventually getting together with Keanu Reeves to talk about the next movie, it's safe to say the leading John Wick star would at least be a part of John Wick 5.

Although John Wick's violent clashes with the criminal underworld have taken him across various worldwide locales over the franchise; Rome, Morocco, Tokyo; it's almost a guaranteed his and the Continental Hotel's home of New York City will once again be one of the settings for the fifth instalment. 

All we know otherwise about the John Wick 5 setting so far is that it's likely to be a new location for the series - as is the case with each entry.
