To see footsteps in Fortnite, you will need to enable an audio setting called "Visualize Sound Effects". To do this, follow the below steps:
- Navigate to the settings menu by pressing the three lines icon at the top left of the home screen
- In the row at the top, select the sound icon, which is the seventh button
- Scroll down to the 'Sound' section and set "Visualize Sound Effects" to on
- Save and apply the settings, and it will be enabled
