The Hardspace Shipbreaker ECU is a vital component of the larger ships that you will begin to salvage later into the game, making the job of ship cutting much harder. As you progress through Hardspace Shipbreaker, the ships becomes larger and have more systems to worry about, such as electricity, radiation, or the threat of an explosion. This means you'll need to be careful when salvaging the Hardspace Shipbreaker ECU, so here's our breakdown of how to safely do it and earn the most credits.

Firstly, if you activate the scanner and look around large ships, you should see long blue lines which indicate the cooling pipes, and a large green box which is where you can find the ECU. On the front of the ECU there is a computer terminal and a naluminum panel which can be removed.

Once you removed these, you'll be able to access the inside and see the three coolant canisters. Remove these carefully and pick them up for roughly 100 credits each, but be careful as they can be used as portable bombs due to their pressure. Removing all three coolant canisters will cause all of the pipes to be flushed, making them safe to cut without the risk of an explosion. You can also now salvage the ECU itself for the big credit reward.

To do this, start by cutting the pipe that connects the ECU to the wall behind it. Getting the ECU out of the room it's in can be a task as the doorway is usually too small, and sometimes the rooms situated vertically or horizontally to the ECU also contain valuable salvage that you don't want to damage. You should always check your scanner and look around to see which is the optimal method of removing the ECU, as you can often just cut a hole in a wall that leads outside or to an empty room, and safely extract it that way.

Once the ECU is out of the ship, safely take it to the Barge situated below the scrapyard, and you will earn your credits and gain progress in salvaging the ship.

The ECU is a ship's Environmental Control Unit, which is used to spread coolant throughout larger ships with Class II reactors, and stop them from overheating the passengers and the ship itself. The ECU oversees this all by monitoring the coolant canisters and pumping the coolant around the ship, allowing it to cool various important points, such as the reactor.

Whenever you have the option to salvage an ECU, you should take it, as they will net you 240,000 credits and 300 Lynx Tokens for upgrading your gear, but you will have to perform specific steps first as performing the task wrong can easily lead to your death.

That's all for our walkthrough on how to safely salvage a Hardspace Shipbreakers ECU, and now you know the process of removing it so you can get your credits.
