Halo Infinite XP progression has been a bugbear of many fans since the highly-anticipated shooter surprise launched for the 20th anniversary of Halo. Halo Infinite has been universally well-received for its excellent gunplay and old-school feel, but without a traditional levelling system, many questioned where the longevity of play was. However, 343 Industries has since made changes to the Halo Infinite XP progression, so we are here to explain exactly what has changed since the game launched, and how battle pass progession works.

Halo Infinite XP Progression: How It Worked On Launch

Unlike most shooters, the Halo Infinite XP progression path is purely linked to the battle pass. Players don't level up and unlock new weapons and attachments like games such as Call of Duty Vanguard, or Battlefield 2042. Instead, all guns are available in match, really negating the need for a traditional levelling system.

The battle pass acts as the levelling system, where players will gradually unlock more cosmetic items to apply to their Spartan armour. The battle pass is paid, but does feature some free cosmetics. However, there was a major balancing issue on launch when it came to the Halo Infinite XP progression. With the first season, Heroes of Reach, last for another six months, 343 was keen to spacing out its 100 tier battle pass. That meant that outside of the weekly challenges, which offered battle pass XP, there was no way to level up through the battle pass. This was somewhat countered when 343 added a "Practice Makes Perfection" challenge, which granted 50XP for any one match played. This meant that players could crawl up a battle pass level every 20 games.

343 Industries have claimed that they are continuing to work on the Halo Infinite XP progression system, as even with the 50XP match reward, players are still finding the grind through the battle pass too much. Luckily however, 343 has now added an XP booster for every player's first six matches. This will work as a depreciating amount of XP earned for each match for your early start. The new Halo Infinite XP progression update works as so:

  • 1st Game: 300XP
  • 2nd Game: 200XP
  • 3rd Game: 200XP
  • 4th Game: 100XP
  • 5th Game: 100XP
  • 6th Game: 100XP
  • 7th+ Game: 50XP

This new Halo Infinite XP progression system means that players will be able to level up a whole battle pass level from their first six matches of each. That's not to mention that you will still be able to earn XP from weekly challenges. This should ease the tempers of some frustrated Halo fans, and 343 Community Manager John Junyszek has claimed that "larger changes" are coming.

That's everything you need to know about the Halo Infinite XP progression. We'll be sure to update this article as soon as any additional changes are made.
