Click to enlargeThe Sword of Night and Flame is a straight sword that requires 12 Strength and Dexterity, and 24 Intelligence and Faith, meaning it has steep levelling costs to use and is only suitable to classes that utilise both Intelligence and Faith. It can also be levelled by using Somber Smithing Stones, while requiring an Ancient Dragon Somber Stone to hit the maximum upgrade level.
It's highly sought after due to its skill, the Night-and-Flame Stance, which allows you to cast the Elden Ring Comet Azur sorcery - with a light attack - and a burst of flame with the heavy attack. This is especially good for switching up your damage types in fights, and it's highly effective against groups. It's worth noting that the damage of the Comet Azur ability is based on your Intelligence, while the fire damage depends on your Faith, so it's worth picking a main one to use.

Elden Ring Sword Of Night And Flame: Where Is It?
Click to enlargeThe Sword of Night and Flame can only be found in one location in the game - the Caria Manor, which is found in the north-west of the Liurnia region. From the Main Caria Manor Gate Lost Grace, make your way into the manor garden and past the fountain, while following the path. You may have to deal with some sentient hands, but you can just run past these.
Follow the path until you arrive at a door, and walk up the stairs to get to the Manor Lower Level Lost Grace. Make your way out of the door ahead, and follow the walkway until you can turn left and then right. After turning right, walk forward a little until you can drop onto a building to your left. Dropdown again onto the lower roof, and there will be a ladder leading inside. Once you're in, there will be a chest inside the room that contains the Sword of Night and Flame, and you can leave by a door nearby.
