How to get & use Skeletal Mages in Diablo 4
Diablo 4 has brought back the classic loot-based action role-playing experience that its great-grandfather created back in the 90s, inviting players into Sanctuary once more to slay hordes of enemies for many shiny things.
If you're playing the Necromancer class, you'll want to know everything about raising an army of the dead, and no army is complete without some Skeletal Mages. So, check out how Skeletal Mages work in Diablo 4.
How can you unlock Skeletal Mages?
To unlock Skeletal Mages in Diablo 4, you will need to reach level 15 and then select them in the Book of the Dead.
There are three variants of Skeletal Mages in the game, with them being unlocked at different levels from level 15 onwards. Here are the three types and their respective level:
- Shadow Skeletal Mages - Level 15
- Cold Skeletal Mages - Level 18
- Bone Skeletal Mages - Level 22
As you probably can tell by the names, each Diablo 4 Skeletal Mage has unique abilities in battle, with its own strengths and weaknesses.
Shadow Skeletal Mages deal moderate damage by bombarding enemies with spells from range; Cold Skeletal Mages deal less overall damage, but they will chill and eventually freeze enemies, increasing the damage they take.
Finally, Bone Skeletal Mages deal the most damage, using their own bones as projectiles, but this comes at the cost of their own life (or unlife) when they run out.
How to use Skeletal Mages
To use Skeletal Mages in Diablo 4, you will need to have selected a type in the Book of the Dead, and then keep using the Raise Skeleton skill until you reach the Skeletal Warriors summoning limit. On your next use of Raise Skeleton, a Skeletal Mage will spawn.
There is an initial limit of three Skeletal Mages, however, this can be raised with some Legendary Aspects by using the Codex of Power.
You also can't mix and match mage types, meaning you'll need to manually change them in the Book of the Dead if you want to summon a new variant.
