The best VR games really have the potential to transport us to other worlds. Whether you are defusing a bomb or dodging bullets, the experience of fully immersing yourself must be seen to be believed. And while the technology still has some way to go, we have still managed to wrack up a fair amount of unforgettable VR titles that manage to make us fully forget we are just swinging our arms around in our living rooms. For that, we're here to celebrate the best VR games that make us never want to leave the digital realm. Note that this list is in no particular order.

  • Looking for something a little more flat-screened? We've got you covered with our best PS5 games 2021 list

Best VR Games: Superhot VR

Superhot VR is one of the best VR games.

Superhot was already a superb flat-screen game, but Superhot VR took its ingenious concept above and beyond, stapling itself among the best VR games. If you move, time moves. That's the premise, and from then its really down to you on how you approach these scenarios. You are stuck in stationary positions this time, but that will have you pulling off your best Matrix impressions as dodging bullets and line up shots in slow motion.

Best VR Games: Beat Saber

Beat Saber is one of the best VR games.

Beat Saber really will have you sweating as you wield a couple of neon lightsabers to face oncoming beat-based cubes. This makes it onto our best VR games list for being endlessly replayable, as you master the increasing difficulty of a wide variety of songs. Not only is it utterly addicting, but it will have you feeling like a dub-step Jedi master, as you slash and swipe your way through a series of blood-pumping tunes. Just be prepared to have some sore shoulders the next day.

Best VR Games: Pistol Whip

Pistol Whip is one of the best VR games.

Another music-based pick, Pistol Whip is your go to John Wick on steroids experience, as you pinpoint pixelated enemies in time to the music to make you feel all the more awesome. This will really get your heart racing, as Pistol Whip throws more and more at you, ramps up the speed and turns up the music. And to assure you that it truly belongs among the best VR games, it also includes some free story-based DLC, that are about as close to a VR Blood Dragon experience as we are going to get.

Best VR Games: The Walking Dead: Saints And Sinners

The Walking Dead Saints and Sinners is one of the best VR games.

The Walking Dead: Saints And Sinners makes it onto our best VR games list for being an experience made from the ground up for VR. It places you in the post-apocalyptic bayous, with a control system that might take a while to come to grips with, but eventually feels intuitive and entirely immersive. Whether you are whipping out your backpack or pulling a knife out from a zombie cranium, The Walking Dead: Saints And Sinners almost feels ahead of its time.

Best VR Games: Tetris Effect

Tetris Effect is one of the best VR games.

You might be wondering, "how on earth does a Tetris game make it onto our best VR games list?". The answer: it is one of the best VR games out there today. Everything about having Tetris in VR feels utterly pointless, but let us tell you that there isn't a more immersive game out there. Thanks to the new musical and visually interesting direction the series has gone down, Tetris Effect can be stressful, relaxing and everything in between as you play an astronomical round as with whales diving across the stars. Playing Tetris Effect in VR is completely entrancing and nothing short of phenomenal.

Best VR Games: No Man's Sky

No Man's Sky is one of the best VR games.

No Man's Sky really is the redemption story of the generation, as this Hello Games space-explorer has won back its fans with persistent updates and new content. However, it all felt truly next level when they introduced the VR addition for free. This allowed you to explore deep caves on distant planets, or jump into light speed with your hands on the throttle. It captures the magic presented by No Man's Sky and bumps into the best VR games with ease thanks to a smart and natural feeling motion controls.

Best VR Games: Half Life Alyx

Half Life Alyx is one of the best VR games.

Where many VR games are easily categorised as "experiences", Half Life Alyx was a fully fledged game. This featured some of the most impressive object interactions we've ever seen as you will scatter items off a shelf to reach for a spare few bullets. And what better way to immerse yourself in a story than by literally walking the streets of its world. Not to mention it marked the official return of the Half Life franchise for the first time since 2007.

Best VR Games: Vader Immortal

Vader Immortal is one of the best VR games.

Lightsaber battles in VR. Need we say anymore to warrant Vader Immortal's place in our best VR games list? This is an original story experience within the Star Wars universe, where you will fully immerse yourself in the setting. This is a Star Wars fan's dream as it features some genuinely brilliant lightsaber battles, and will allow you to slam your ship into hyperdrive. And with three full episodes to experience, there is plenty to go around.

Best VR Games: Resident Evil 7 VR

Resident Evil 7 VR is one of the best VR games.

Resident Evil 7 VR initially felt like nothing more than an add on. An entire game that is playable on a screen, simply ported over to VR. Well those notions are immediately dispersed as you transport yourself to the Baker Estate for the first time. It might not have any motion controls - with you still using a controller - but the graphical quality will leave you too scared to move past a door you know is going to slam behind you. This one isn't for the faint of heart, but for those that think they can take it, Resident Evil 7 VR is an absolute must, and easily one of the best VR games out there.

Best VR Games: Blood And Truth

Blood and Truth is one of the best VR games.

One of Sony's only big budget VR titles, Blood and Truth is your perfect VR getaway. With a blockbuster storyline, you will be scaling buildings, sniping off rooftops, and jumping out of windows in a hail of bullets in slow motion. London Game Studios really just worked through a checklist of things that would be cool to experience in VR. And while you might not leave thinking too much of its characters or story, you will remember how you became a bonafide VR action hero. Only one of the best VR games could do that.

Now you know our top 10 picks for the best VR games, why not check out our list of the best battle royale games to play right now?
