Length is an important factor for many people when playing video games, and those of you looking to play the latest Alone in the Dark will want to know how many hours you can expect to get out of the experience.

Survival horror games tend to run on the shorter side, and often encourage replaying with new characters or difficulties - with some even offering new endings in the case of the Dead Space and Resident Evil 2 remakes.

I've found that to also be the case with Alone in the Dark after two playthroughs, so learn more about the game's overall length and the chapter list below.

How long is Alone in the Dark?

My first playthrough of Alone in the Dark was with Emily and took me between seven and eight hours of in-game time, while my second with Edward ran for just over three hours.

This will obviously vary from player to player, but your first playthrough will likely be in the area of 7–10 hours total. If you opt for a second playthrough as the other character, expect this to be shorter by virtue of knowing where to go and what to do.

Some of you will also want to grab all the collectibles and chase the secret ending, and while these collectibles aren't too hard to find, it will add a couple of hours of searching to a playthrough.

Alone in the Dark chapter list

There are five chapters total in the game, with each one numbered sequentially. They aren't all equal in length or content, as chapters one and five act like small a prologue and epilogue, running for well under an hour each.

The middle chapters are much longer, involving most of the exploration and puzzle solving around Derceto Manor and the other places you'll come across when playing.
