Shrek is love, Shrek is life, Shrek is...Resident Evil? While you might not normally asscoiate that green grump with the horrors of Capcom's shuffling series, Shrek himself has found a place in the upcoming Resident Evil 4 remake.

Capcom is putting a fresh lick of corn syrup on the GameCube classic, and while we've seen plenty of ports over the years, this is a full new-gen release in line with the developer's Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 remakes.

A lot has changed since Resident Evil 4 launched in 2005, and apparently, that includes sneaking Shrek into every game you can think of. We all know RE4 villains like Ramon Salazar, Jack Krauser, and the Chainsaw Man, but now, we're adding Shrek to the rogue's gallery.

Why is Shrek in Resident Evil 4?

It's become a tradition that as soon as a game gets released on PC, modders take over and fill it with all kinds of weird and wonderful creations. Although the Resident Evil 4 remake isn't out until March 24, its demo has allowed them to go wild.

You might remember when people swapped Lady Dimitrescu for Thomas the Tank Engine in the Resident Evil Village demo, and now, they've been unleashed on RE4 like a mob of Las Plagas-infected villagers. One particular mod from IvenXIII is doing the rounds - swapping the infamous Chainsaw Man for Shrek.

Over on Nexus Mods, you can download the Shrek (Chainsaw Demo) mod. As you can see, famed mod enthusiast ToastedShoes has been giving the remake a run for its money.

Alongside the other tradition of putting GTA: San Andreas' C.J. in the game (swapping Leon for him), we see the villagers become Teletubbies and Chuck E. Cheese as Chainsaw Man. To be honest, we think Shrek is a better fit.

The Resident Evil 4 remake will be very different to the original

We're warned that spoilers for the Resident Evil 4 remake are already out in the wild. While that might not sound like a big deal for a game that came out 18 years ago, from what we've seen, Capcom is taking some major swings away from the original.

We already know one fan-favourite will have a different arc, while the way Ashley Graham is used will be completely different. The latest update confirms the final boss bottle has also found its way online, so watch out. If you can hold on, there's a matter of days until the remake is officially released.

With Resident Evil 4 coming to PS4, PS5, Xbox Series, and PC, PC players can enjoy a plethora of mods across the whole game. Imagine someone swapping Leon and Ashley for Din Djarin and Grogu from The Mandalorian. To be honest, we just want someone to mod Ada Wong into Marge Simpson.
