It's clear Call of Duty: Warzone is the "brains" of the outfit, as the fan-favourite battle royale spin-off looks like it's about to add zombies to Season Two.

While the Call of Duty franchise has come a long way from the Nazi-packed trenches of World War II, there are still some staple elements from the early days that have helped the modern version of the franchise stand the test of time. After their introduction in 2008's Call of Duty: World at War, zombies have gone hand in hand with CoD, and in particular, Treyarch's titles.

As we bridge the worlds of Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare and Treyarch's Black Ops Cold WarWarzone is being used as a buffer zone to ease the transition between old and new. The new Warzone Season One added the first elements of Cold War with the introduction of weapons, Operators, and the Rebirth Island map, however, another Treyarch favourite could be crawling from the grave. What's better still, it's not even Halloween yet!

Are zombies coming to Warzone Season Two?

The first teasers for Warzone Season Two have plenty packed into them with the usual static fuzz, but are we missing the zombies lurking in the shadows? Posting on Twitter, Warzone players have discovered the Cold War Zombies Trial Machine in the hospital building. They claim they made the discovery in Rumble, and given the unfinished textures, it looks like a glitch...for now. Others soon picked up on the machine and noticed you could interact to "Activate Zombies". We love a bit of environmental interaction, so the ability to send a horde of ravenous zombies out onto the map sounds like a tempting offer.

There are plenty of questions, like would activating zombies also see the munching undead come for your team as well, or would you have some form of immunity? Either way, we can imagine barricading ourselves in the hospital and sticking up barriers like the good ol' days of World at War or an episode of The Walking Dead.

Easter eggs in Call of Duty are some of the best around, with players correctly deciphering Cold War's Soviet theme long before the official announcement. Then again, who could forget that disastrous teaser where content creators were sent projectors, and we had to paw through hours of streams to work out what's going on? Putting it bluntly, the simpler the Easter egg, the better. Something that says "Activate Zombies" is a pretty clear indication of what's to come.

Is it just zombies coming to Warzone Season Two?

If you aren't convinced zombies are the way, note the mass of screens around the hospital machine. A series of codes reveal the message "To the victor, the spoils". Well duh, anyone who's secured Victory in Verdansk will already know that. Remember when screens were taken over with static to tease Cold War's imminent arrival in Warzone, well, it looks like the same is happening again. Players are getting suitably pumped that another big event is on the way. We've just had the introduction of Firebase Z in the main game, and with complaints Cold War didn't deliver enough Zombies content, chucking them into Warzone is a way to rectify this.

Aside from zombies, there are continued rumours we'll see nukes added to Warzone. The divisive Fallout 76 made the most of nukes to blow your enemies to pieces, but when it comes to Warzone, whispers suggest the whole map could be wiped out. Will Activision follow in the footsteps of what Epic Games with Fortnite Chapter X and obliterate the Verdansk we know in favour of something new?

Ever since the news broke that Modern Warfare and Cold War would be meeting in Warzone, we've been rightly asking when there will be a proper overhaul of the map as Modern Warfare bows out gracefully. Nukes are definitely one way to do it, culminating in a live event that would see everyone flock to Warzone., Hey, we're just the ideas people. Zombies and nukes, zombies or nukes, we're clearly on the cusp of something big and catastrophic. We can't wait to chow down on more Cold War chaos in Warzone.
