The upcoming 5v5 shooter Valorant will have ten playable characters on release. Five characters will be free to play on launch, with the other five being unlockable.

Anna Donlon, an executive producer at Riot Games, spoke to IGN regarding the process of unlocking the characters. “Players will have the option of earning in-game content through playing and engaging with the game, or they can choose to purchase desired content as a shortcut” explains Donlon. Valorant will be implementing an “engagement-incentivized model,” letting players earn the right to add the unlockable five Agents to their roster through real-world currency or earning enough in-game currency to purchase them.

No news yet on who the ninth & tenth Agents will be, as only eight agents have been revealed so far.
