It looks like the Overwatch League is canon in Sony's Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, as eagle-eyed fans have spotted its logo.

What an unlikely pairing that would be. Overwatch League fans appear to have spotted a reference to their favourite esports league in the most recent Marvel movie, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

The latest adventure of Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) has opened up the Multiverse and included a whole host of Spider-People, while also canonising Insomniac's Spider-Man. Is Overwatch also part of this world?

Is that the Overwatch League logo in Across the Spider-Verse?

Don't blink or you'll miss it. Overwatch League fans spotted a familiar logo in one of the scenes of the new critically acclaimed animated Spider-Man movie.

Overwatch League's logo features a black and orange composition separated by the silhouette of one of the most recognisable heroes of the game, DPS hero Tracer.

While it's not the focus of the story, it's undeniably the case that there is a lot of similarity between the painted logo on the right-hand wall of the screenshot and the official Overwatch League logo.

Notably, the pose and colour choice appears to be identical to the one of Blizzard Entertainment's franchise league.

While admittedly, there are changes to the composition with the orange and black colour being switched and the Tracer silhouette being altered slightly, there might be a good explanation for that too.

While probably also convenient for legal reasons, Across the Spider-Verse is set in a world of multiverses in which every alternate reality has slight changes made to the respective universe that changes things up while keeping the brought features recognisable.

It appears internally consistent for the Overwatch League logo to also have slightly been altered in one of the multiverses.

Fans love the reference

While some fans are sceptical about whether or not the wallpaper is indeed a reference to the OWL logo, others have fully embraced the reference.

One fan reminded us, "Not a surprise since there's a comic book panel of Peter/Spider-man canonically playing Overwatch." Even the Overwatch League Twitter account responded, recognising itself in the image too.

Across the Spider-Verse is currently running in cinemas around the globe while the Overwatch League is in the middle of one of its two international tournaments called the Midseason Madness. Does this mean we'll see multiple Mercy variants in 2024's Beyond the Spider-Verse?
