The Best Resident Evil Games Are Finally Coming To Nintendo Switch
How long have you dreamed about exploring Raccoon City while travelling to work, on a long car journey, or even from the bath? Well, now you can.
Resident Evil games are officially coming to the Nintendo Switch thanks to a new partnership that will see Capcom's zombie shooter shuffle onto Nintendo's red and blue favourite.
It's been a long time coming, but now, your patience is being rewarded as the best Resident Evil games are crawling from the grave and into the house that Mario built.
Are Resident Evil Games Coming To Nintendo Switch?
Click to enlargeIt's true that bits of the Resiverse are available to play on the Switch, however, it's far from a complete story. The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series let you dive into things, while the Switch is a far more sparse affair.
There are peculiar additions, including Resident Evil Zero and Revelations 2 available to play on Switch, and let's not forget that 2017's Resident Evil 7 originally launched in Japan in 2018. The rest of us have had to wait for its 2022 Cloud release.
Given the recent resurgence in Resident Evil - thanks to the 2019 and 2020 remakes of RE2 and RE3 - you'll be pleased to learn this dynamic duo is now joining the growing Switch family. Cloud gaming company Ubitus confirms it has partnered with Capcom to bring Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, Resident Evil 7, and the recent Winters' Expansion for Village to the Switch.
Ubitus' patented technologies apparently help developers like Capcom "quickly convert their games in PC or console versions to the cloud with little modification to features and game play."
If you aren't sold, Nintendo Life's review of the Village Cloud version from Ubitus in October reads, "For the most part, we were pleasantly surprised. During our time with the game, we encountered minimal slowdown or visual hiccups."
What's Next For Resident Evil?
Due to Nintendo's family-friendly image, Resident Evil has always struggled to find a place among Mario, Link, and Pikachu. Now, and given the success of Village, we'd be surprised if Resident Evil 9 didn't make a speedier arrival on Switch (or its inevitable sequel).
Speaking of which, we know Capcom is working on Resident Evil 9. Although we originally thought it would round off a trilogy of Winters games, that's apparently no longer the case. Either way, it looks like the Winters' Expansion has polished that off.
There was a major leak of Resident Evil 9 plot points earlier this year, but no word on whether it's the real deal or just an elaborate hoax. While we wait for RE9, there's no better time to boot up the Switch and try out the previous games in all their portable glory.
