The currency of League of Legends, VALORANT, and other Riot Games titles are now officially worth more than the Russian Ruble following sanctions imposed after the invasion of Ukraine.

Russia's currency has fallen 50% in the last two weeks, as the world has replied to the horrific invasion of Ukraine by targeting Russia's oligarchs and economy in an attempt to curb the country's potential to fund its armed forces.

With the Ruble dropping to a valuation of just £0.0055 (from £0.01), it now makes Riot Points more valuable than the currency of Russia.

Riot Points Are Worth More Than Russian Rubles

Players can purchase a single Riot Point for £0.0058, should they purchase the £50 bundle worth 8,600 Rio Points. The same sum will only get you 9,053 Rubles now, making the digital currency used in League of Legends and other Riot titles worth more than the currency used in Russia.

The fall of the Ruble also has much to do with sanctions as it does with companies pulling out of Russia. This has extended to the world of gaming and esports; both BLAST and ESL have banned any Russian-backed teams from competing on the world stage in their events and CD Projekt RED, developers of The Witcher series and Cyberpunk 2077, has stopped all sales in Russia and Belarus much to the chagrin of some.

Riot Games have now also pledged their support to Ukraine by donating money and proceeds to charitable institutions helping the citizens of the war-torn country.

The developers have confirmed that all proceeds from the VALORANT, Legends of Runeterra, Teamfight Tactics, and Wild Rift battle passes will directly support humanitarian relief in Ukraine and other affected areas, as well as the new Bee skin line in League of Legends.

On top of this fundraiser, Riot is also donating $1m to humanitarian nonprofits, specifically splitting the sum between International Medical Corps, Doctors Without Borders, and the Polish Red Cross.

The in-game fundraiser for Ukraine is running until March 12, having started on March 5.
