Each of the 44 team capsules is designed to reflect the distinct identity of the participating VCT teams. The capsules include unique skins with special audio effects, player cards with teams, and exclusive buddy and spray sets that have been co-created with 44 participating partnership teams.

The capsules are available through the in-game Esports Hub which arrived with today's patch 8.03. Special promotions are planned for global event winners, with availability starting February 21 for most regions and May for the VCT China skins with the Masters event in Shanghai.

With the expansion of the VCT to include a new league in China, the attention surrounding international events is expected to increase. According to Riot, VALORANT currently has 28 million active players, with 9.5 million unique viewers having tuned in for the pinnacle event of the season, VALORANT Champions in 2023.

Riot Games has once again created team-themed MTX integrations, introducing team-specific capsules and skins for the 2024 VALORANT Champions Tour. These capsules offer fans a way to show up by representing their team in-game as well as financially supporting them through a revenue split.

Each purchase contributes directly to the teams, with 50% of profits shared with them. Last year's capsule sales contributed $33 million to the partnered organisations. The 2024 season's expanded offerings as well as its larger global scope with the introduction of VCT China, is projected to contribute even more.

Leo Faria, Global Head of VALORANT Esports, expressed enthusiasm for the initiative. He highlighted its role in supporting the esports economy and providing fans with a means to express their fandom.

Esports organisations have been highlighting MTX as a must-have feature of titles to be worth investing in. In a Tweet regarding the increasing challenge of team stability, Gen.G CEO Arnold Hur wrote last April: “At this point, we are only interested in esports titles with a viable plan and path for digital revenue. Titles without will be deprioritized or cut.

"Sustainable mtx is a difficult problem to solve but there’s no point if the publisher isn’t even trying.

OverActive Media CEO Adam Adamou shared the sentiment, recently stating in an interview that their continued interest in a title would be contingent on the implied commitment of the developer to this revenue stream.
