Players Are Already Downloading The GTA Trilogy On Xbox
If you can't wait to play the GTA Trilogy, you aren't alone. While rumours of a new-gen revamp of those old favourites wasn't exactly a surprise, Rockstar Games finally made good on the leaks and confirmed a souped-up GTA III, San Andreas, and Vice City will come motoring into our lives on November 11.
We'd like to reiterate the GTA Trilogy isn't a truly new-gen GTA bundle, so don't expect to see a brand-new Tommy Vercetti as the neon lights of Vice City reflect off a ray traced ocean, but still, what little we've seen confirms there are some great improvements on the way. Ahead of general release, lucky Xbox players are getting the jump on the competition.
Can You Download The GTA Trilogy On Xbox?
According to several sources, eager beavers are already pre-loading the GTA Trilogy. The problem is, it's only on Xbox. While it's usually Sony that gets a head start with the PlayStation, it's Xbox owners who are in luck for once.
Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - Definitive Edition is apparently pre-loading on all Xbox systems. Posting on GTAForums, disgruntled players are rightly peeved that Rockstar has favoured Xbox of PlayStation and other platforms. At the end of the day, most of us are paying the same (hefty) price tag, so why should Xbox get to pre-load before the rest?
One disgruntled fan simply wrote, "What the heck,I paid good money on the PS Store for the trilogy, and gamepass members get a head start!! Be fair Rockstar and give PSN paying customers a preload for the trilogy now,and not 2 days before release."
Is The GTA Trilogy Different Depending On Which Platform You Use?
Each version of the GTA Trilogy will be slightly different, depending which platform you're playing on. For example, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series versions can run a glossy at 4K 60fps, while Nvidia DLSS support gives frame rates a boost on PC.
There's only so much you can do with the power of the Nintendo Switch, meaning it's locked into a modest 30 FPS with the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. At least Switch users can make the most of touchscreen and gyro aiming.
Interestingly, screenshots show that the download sizes are actually smaller than what the original Microsoft Store listing suggested. Adding all three from the trilogy to your library will apparently take up about 38 GB - which is what the PlayStation version is also set to be when it goes live for pre-load on November 9.
The GTA Trilogy might sound like a small download compared to most modern titles, but it's considerably more than your average remaster. This presumably has something to do with an overhaul of textures and addition on Unreal Engine. So far, it appears the original file size on Xbox is 49 GB of storage space, 20 GB on the switch, and 45 GB on PC. Now that Xbox fans know that can start pre-loading, what are you waiting for?
