The two Overwatch League-winning coaches Yun "RUSH" Hee-won and Moon "Moon" Byung-chul have recently shared their opinions on the currently best Overwatch players for each role ahead of next week's matchup between two of the best teams in OWCS Korea.

Two world champions

Much has changed in the Overwatch esports scene since the demise of the Overwatch League and the beginning of its new open system, the Overwatch Championship Series. The Head Coach of the season 5 winners Dallas Fuel, RUSH has yet to find an Overwatch organisation to pick him up but has been actively searching for a new team. In a recent Twitter AMA, the coach answered questions about his career and also shared his evaluation of players in the current state of the game.

Season 4 champion Moon, who had been the coach of the Shanghai Dragons from Season 3 to 6, hosted his own AMA shortly after. He is currently coaching the South Korean OWCS team WAC, which most experts consider one of the best teams in the game right now.

Colour commentator Kevin “AVRL” Walker asked the coaches to share their input on the best player on the planet, specifically limiting the scope of his question to 2024 while asking to name a player for each role. Some of the answers were surprising

The best players in each role

Unsurprisingly, Moon named three players of his current team as the best players in each role, nominating former San Fransisco Shock and Vancouver Titans DPS Chae "HeeSang" Hee-sang as the best DPS player, Park "Junbin" Jun-bin as the best Tank in the game, and Kim "Shu" Jin-seo as the best support player.

The teamless coach, RUSH surprisingly echoed the choice of HeeSang. The DPS player had largely stood in the shadow of O2 Blast and San Francisco Shock teammate Kim "Proper" Dong-hyun during his professional career, only starting to show off his qualities once he left the season 5 MVP’s team.

RUSH also did not nominate his long-time star player Choi "Hanbin" Han-been as the best tank in OWCS but rather chose Yoo "smurf" Myeong-hwan, a mildly surprising choice given that both players are currently playing for Team Falcons with smurf seeing more playtime for the team. He did however stick to his former team in choosing Kwon "Fielder" Joon as the best support player in the game right now.

With all chosen players currently either playing for Falcons or WAC, the matchup between the two teams during the Group Stage of OWCS Korea promises to be a good one. Both teams are currently sitting at unbeaten scores, with Falcons netting three, and WAC having four victories at the time of writing.

Fans will have to wait just a little longer for the clash of these titans, with the match scheduled for March 23 at 10:30 am CET / 4:30 am EST.
