Overwatch 2 may have only launched in October of 2022, but the popular free-to-play online shooter is already in its fourth season of post-launch content.

The update, which will introduce the new support character Lifeweaver to the roster of heroes, will drop on April 11. We caught up with the devs as part of a group interview ahead of the new season to discuss the potential for Lifeweaver's abilities to troll players and even got a small update on the Gothenburg map, but one question asked the team if Overwatch 3 could be coming further down the line.

As it happens, Overwatch 3 couldn't be further from the team's mind.

Is Overwatch 3 happening?

In short, no - Overwatch 3 isn't expected. That may seem an obvious statement, but it's worth remembering no one was quite expecting a second game, either.

"We've got season after season of things coming, you know, and a lot of big plans this year," Alex Dawson, Lead Hero Designer explains.

"Every season of Overwatch 2 is going to have amazing content; every other season's going to have a hero, and we're not too far away from sharing more details about the greater year."

Gavin J Jurgens-Fyhrie, Lead Narrative Designer, followed up:

"Look what's come so far. I mean, just last month we were doing a dating sim," he says, referring to the Loverwatch event.

"That's some pretty wild times for the Overwatch franchise, so you have to imagine we have some other surprises coming."

It's certainly been an impressive start to life for a sequel that many didn't believe was necessary, with a Lifeweaver joining the roster as a new mobility-focused healer.

Season 3 didn't add a new hero, with a new map coming instead, but it's clear nothing is off limits as far as the future of Overwatch is concerned.
