Modern Warfare December Update Hasn't Gone Down Well With Players
While Call of Duty continues to be Activision's big-winner in terms of gaming franchises, there are accusations that the publisher is leaning too heavily on the first-person shooter and needs to slow down with rolling out its golden goose. This issue has become even more prevalent with Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War bursting onto the scene and slaying the competition.
The problem comes from the fact we're still very much invested in last year's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and its Call of Duty: Warzone spinoff. With three titles jostling to remain relevant, there are accusations it's a case of too much CoD saturating the market right now. The future of the previous games is still uncertain, and as Infinity Ward delivers a lacklustre Modern Warfare December update, players think this is the beginning of the end.
Modern Warfare December update: What's included?
The December 1 update only altered the playlist, meaning players didn't have to download anything to enjoy this revamped version of the game. In the run-up to the update, fans have continued to ask for the return of Shipment 24/7, Shoot House 24/7, and Shoot the Ship, however, all of the aforementioned were missing in action. The official Modern Warfare Twitter explained what's new across all platforms.
Infinity Ward has added Gunfight: Snipers Only, Deathmatch Domination, "Stir Crazy", and "A Little DIY". You don't need much imagination to figure out what Gunfight and Deathmatch Domination will be like, whereas the other two need a little more description. "Stir Crazy" crams a 10v10 mode into small maps only. "A Little DIY" is confined to Scrapyard and Hardhat. Warzone's update remains pretty much the name apart from swapping Blood Money Trios for Plunder Quads.
Modern Warfare December update: What's the issue?
The big complaint here is not what's included, but what isn't. For as long as we can remember, players have been asking for a permanent playlist. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like Shipment 24/7 and Shoot House 24/7 will become a reality. Posting on Twitter, the update was torn apart. One critic wrote, "Let's be for real guys, the only reason why they don't drop Shipment 24/7, Shoot House 24/7 or Shoot the Ship is because they want us to play CW/they want us to buy CW. Why would they make an off-season going 14d long? So we stop grinding in MW and start playing CW".
Now that Season 6 is bowing out - and with Season 7 looking increasingly unlikely - it's disappointing that a stale playlist update could be the lasting memory that Modern Warfare leaves behind. It's become a recurring problem that older games have waned as the next CoD comes into play, so is anyone really surprised this what's going on with Modern Warfare? Whether there's more on the horizon or this is the end of the road, we're still holding out hope that we'll eventually get to see Shipment 24/7 and Shoot House 24/7.
