Even though Modern Warfare 3 may be a new title in the Call of Duty series, it's certainly aiming to play on the nostalgia of old-school fans.

Alongside the return of Makarov and a set of classic weapons, the main selling point for most of the community is the return of the MW2 (2009) maps.

Fully remastered, these classic locations have been upscaled with better graphics and extra details to truly elevate the gameplay experience.

Well, MW3 has finally given us our first look at the maps, and it's safe to say, they look incredible from a visual standpoint.

MW3 offers first look at remastered MW2 (2009) maps

As showcased by popular Call of Duty account CharlieINTEL, MW3 has given us our first look at the remastered MW2 (2009) maps.

While only giving us glimpses of the iconic locations, it's clear an immense amount of effort has gone into visually improving the areas.

Speaking on the overhaul, the devs have made it clear that when remastering the maps for MW3, they didn't want to make too many changes to the locations themselves. Instead, the biggest adjustments have come from a fidelity standpoint, allowing you see enemies a lot easier.

"The biggest changes are really in a fidelity sense, places like Afghan, where it might have been difficult to see somebody in some of the circumstances, we have new tools to make that both look better, but also read better so your target acquisition is improved.

MW3 devs reveal maps will maintain their 'original' feel

One of the biggest concerns for players was that the devs would make too many changes to the MW2 (2009) maps and potentially tarnish their design with new alterations.

Well, Sledgehammer has directly responded to this, revealing that whenever possible they've leaned towards maintaining the classic design.

"When it was a question of whether it should be like the original or whether it should be more modern in terms of the metrics, we went with the original... we pushed very hard to make sure that experience was as close to the original as we possibly could."

This is hugely exciting news for old-school fans who are desperate to relive the MW2 (2009) days. Now there are no concerns about the visuals of the remastered maps, it'll be interesting to see whether the devs can nail the spawns and (obviously) the weapons.
