Grand Theft Auto 6 is definitely on the way, even in spite of it not being even close to coming over the horizon. In fact, we reckon it's still at home in its pyjamas even though it told us it left the house ten minutes ago.

The game seems to be a long way off, and judging by the whopping leak of early development footage, there's still plenty of work to be done. Yet, despite the early-2020s predicted release window, there are some who reckon it's coming much sooner.

And surprisingly, Microsoft is included.

Interesting.

Recent days have seen the reveal of documents pertaining to Xbox's purchase of Activision Blizzard, with Sony and Microsoft playing some kind of bizarre capitalist tennis match of claims to and for the acquisition.

Microsoft has come through on their side, fighting the legal case for the buyout - but they've also commented on the release of GTA 6 and its appearance across both Xbox and PlayStation. The interesting part, though, is that Microsoft states that "The highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 is expected to be released in 2024". Is that so, Microsoft?

It's the first acknowledgement of rumours that we've seen from an actual company - but it seems like just a quote.

Microsoft Quotes An Article On The Release Date Of GTA 6

Though for many this comment has served as confirmation of a bumped-up release date for the game, this comment is actually a quote from a publication rather than a comment on behalf of Microsoft.

The statement comes from TechRadar, who stated that "current and former Rockstar staff reckon GTA 6 is still at least two years away from release, suggesting a 2024 launch."

It's likely that the "at least" is doing a lot of heavy lifting here, with the game being so big and with so much work left to do - but we'll just have to wait and see. Who knows - maybe we'll see GTA 6 sooner than we expected.
