If you thought MAR10 (or Mario Day) falling on a Sunday would slow Nintendo's roll, you'd be mistaken. In fact, the company has revealed a whole host of news about upcoming projects starring the plumber-turned-movie star.

For gamers, we now know when we'll be playing a couple of Nintendo heavy-hitters this year, with Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door remake and Luigi's Mansion 2 HD getting a release date of June 27 - leaving the second half of 2024 wide open.

Away from the Switch (with the console likely on its last legs ahead of a new console in 2025), Nintendo also shined some light on Mario's cinematic exploits.

After 2023's Super Mario Bros. movie, which destroyed box office records, it was only a matter of time before we got news on a new movie - and we now have a date, although no confirmation that the movie will be a direct sequel to the Chris Pratt and Anya Taylor-Joy hit.

The next movie, based on “The World of Super Mario Bros." will debut on April 3, 2026 - so we have a bit of a wait yet. Once again, the movie will be produced by Illumination Founder & CEO Chris Meledandri and Shigeru Miyamoto.

Miyamoto said in the video above "As for details of the new film, as I often say, we’ll let you know once we’re at the stage where we’re ready to share more."

“This time, we’re thinking about broadening Mario’s world further, and it’ll have a bright and fun story. We hope you’ll look forward to it.”

Meledandri added that he's “thrilled to announce our return to Super Mario Bros.”

“We start animation soon, and rest assured we’ll be stressing over every detail to get it right.”

Nintendo hasn't forgotten its roots

If you're feeling a little blue about having to wait for more Mario games to play, the good news is that Nintendo Switch Online's Game Boy library is about to add another trio.

Dr Mario, Mario Golf, and Mario Tennis are arriving on the service on March 12, which is this coming Tuesday.

After June, though, the gaming future of Nintendo's mascot remains unwritten - here's hoping for an Odyssey sequel on the next console, eh?
