Another year, another gaming leak for the ages. Following the massive Nvidia leak of September 2021 and GTA 6 leak of September 2022, the Insomniac Games ransomware leak is one of the industry's biggest. Seemingly revealing everything the acclaimed developer is working on, it's a devastating day for the team.

Once known for its work on Spyro, Ratchet & Clank, and Resistance (we're still praying the latter makes a comeback), Insomniac is now known for swinging into action with its Spider-Man games. Marvel's Wolverine is on the way, and by the looks of it, Insomniac is working on more Marvel games after that.

There's a lot to unpack from the Insomniac leak, and while our thoughts are with the developer right now, there's plenty to be excited about. As well as the potential release date for Wolverine, it sounds like this adamantium adventure will be the first chapter in an expanded X-Men universe.

We won't go into the leaked cast list for Wolverine, but it's safe to say that some familiar faces from the world of Marvel mutants are set to have a pretty big role in Logan's superhero slasher. According to the leaked roadmap, Insomniac has pencilled in an X-Men game for 2030.

As reported by Cyber Daily, there's some interesting insight into the X-Men licensing deal. Effective as of July 2021, there appear to be the signatures of Isaac Perlmutter, Marvel's Chairperson of Entertainment and former Sony President Jim Ryan. There are three X-Men games, with the first being Wolverine.

X-Men marks the spot

If we are destined to get three X-Men games, it seems Wolverine will serve as the first entry in a trilogy. Plot leaks claim the title will be set in a world before the X-Men, suggesting that Charles Xavier could be assembling a team of gifted youngsters at some point. Imagine a Wolverine post-credit scene where he recruits Logan.

Other leaked documents claim that the X-Men standalone game is coming in 2029 instead of 2030, with another X-Men game (titled X-Men3 due to Wolverine) targeting a 2033 release. As for multiplayer, one graphic shows an X-Men Online element launching in 2028.

It would seem unusual to launch a game's multiplayer before the main campaign, but who knows? Sony is looking into the leak, and it's important to remember that because these leaks potentially have a decade's worth of games, a lot could change. Either way, it's a difficult day for the Insomniac team.
