The sixth week of matches in the 2022 League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) not only was a great preamble to the final super week of the split but also brought forth tons of exciting takeaways.

From Team SoloMid and Golden Guardians surprising the league by going 2-0 to finish the week to 100 Thieves getting their fifth week in a row, there is much to take away from the penultimate week of the LCS Spring Split.

With that in mind, here are some of our takeaways from Week 7 of the LCS Spring Split.

TSM Shock The League

To say that Team SoloMid have been having a rough year thus far is an understatement. From the behind-the-scenes issues that the organisation has had to deal with to the team’s poor performances on the Summoner’s Rift, the once legendary North American team doesn’t come close to that title. However, much to the surprise of everyone who watches and follows the LCS, Team SoloMid have done the unthinkable and not only performed well, but went 2-0 during Week 7.

One could say that even if they had a performance like the one they had versus Cloud9 previously in which they showed some sense of direction that still would’ve been an improvement. Instead, they went above and beyond that. In the face of what has been constant ridicule since Week 1 due to having the likes of reigning LCS MVP Mingy “Spica” Lu, All-Pro player in Edward “Tactical” Ra, and someone as tenured as Heo “Huni” Seung-hoon who all have found success in the past they finally showed some life.

Not only was their win versus Cloud9 impressive as they beat the best team in the league, but their match against Immortals proved it was no flash in the pan. Team SoloMid were in a massive pit to start their match versus Immortals due to Spica dying to Cassioppiea which led to an early deficit. However, Team SoloMid were able to turn it around thanks to Immortals failing to press their advantages and punish mistakes, and in turn, Team SoloMid kept the gold close and finished their fights, leading to a win.

Golden Guardians Show Possible Signs Of Consistency

Golden Guardians have been defiantly inconsistent throughout the Spring Split. They lost a lot of 50/50 games early on but were able to turn it around, breathing some life into the team. However, it didn’t last though because as soon as positivity reigned negativity made sure not to leave their side, resulting in two winless weeks in a row in Week 5 and 6

Fortunately for them, they changed that come Week 7. Similar to Team SoloMid, they rocked a 2-0 week creating a launchpad for an unexpected playoff place.

Like Counter Logic Gaming in last year’s Spring Split, they have been gaining impressive early game leads but haven’t been able to close those games out, but perhaps this Week 7 performance can turn that all around.

Now tied with Evil Geniuses and Dignitas, a sliver of light has cracked on the Golden Guardians.

100 Thieves Hit Five-Game Winning Streak

After their perfect Week 7, 100 Thieves have continued their five-game winning streak and secured playoffs in one go. This comes after what has been a split filled with tumultuous matches that if it weren’t for one single misplay by them or an outplay by the opposing team, the outcome of the match could have been swung. Most notably, in their match versus Evil Geniuses in which just one Graves auto took the game’s Dragon Soul.

100 Thieves are slowly improving, and like any team, they’ve needed the confidence and thanks to their win streak, they’ve been getting it. The five-game win streak has shown the Thieves that taking the right fights, rather than all fights, is the way to go. Although ponderous, it gets them wins.

All in all, 100 Thieves can sit comfortably knowing that they are most likely to make the playoffs, the real question will be the likes of Golden Guardians who are barely scraping by, while Team SoloMid need a miracle in order to qualify.

With not only a super week but the final week of the LCS Spring Split on the horizon, only time will tell how the LCS playoff picture will end up.
