Now that the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) has been done and dusted and Evil Geniuses have returned to North America, it’s safe to say that the second half of the 2022 League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) is upon us.
Known as the LCS Summer Split, this section of the season decides which three teams will represent North America at the World Championship, and it can be particularly brutal as teams truly compete for all the marbles. This is the case when the 2022 Summer Split has to follow up on one of the most chaotic Spring Splits in recent memories—one that saw Evil Geniuses take home the crown for the first time and left LCS big dogs Team Liquid, Cloud9, and 100 Thieves yearning for more.
With that in mind, here’s a preview for the LCS 2022 Summer Split.
LCS 2022 Summer Split Format
Following the changes for the 2022 season, the LCS Summer Split will consist of an eight-week double round-robin with five games on both Saturday and Sunday. Like the Spring Split, Weeks 1 and 8 will be played as Super Weeks. In these two Super Weeks, teams will play an additional five matches on Fridays. It’ll be a fresh new start for teams as opposed to the 2021 season, squads will begin with a clean slate in the standings.
The matches will begin at 4 pm ET / 10 pm BST on Saturdays and 3 pm ET / 9 pm BST on Sundays, with the Friday matches beginning at 5 pm ET / 11 pm BST.
At the end of Week 8, the top eight teams of the LCS 2022 Summer Split regular season will move on to the LCS Summer Playoffs. Here, teams will participate in the same format that was utilised in the Spring Split. The format houses the top eight teams from the regular season in a double-elimination bracket with the top two teams earning first-round byes. The top six teams will be placed in the upper bracket while seeds seventh and eighth will have to survive through the lower bracket.
Once an LCS Summer Split champion is crowned, they, alongside the second and third-place teams from the playoffs will represent North America and the LCS at 2022 Worlds.
LCS 2022 Summer Split Teams And Rosters
The LCS can expect the same ten teams from the Spring Split to participate in the Summer Split, however, some of these will look different as they will have different rosters.
