If you're trying to track down KFC's elusive dancing Psyduck toy... chances are you've got a bit of a headache right now. Despite it being 26 years since Pokefever first gripped the world, it seems we still can't get enough of those adorable Pocket Monsters - and brands know it.

2021 celebrated the franchise's milestone 25th anniversary with Pokemon Legends: Arceus, the remastered Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, and the long-awaited return of McDonald's Pokemon Cards. Although KFC might seem a little late to the party, its own Pokemon collab is getting the same viral attention as Ronald did with those Pokemon Cards.

How Has Dancing Psyduck Gone Viral?

It's not harsh to admit Psyduck isn't going to be winning many popularity contests among Pokemon fandom. Effectively the Jar Jar Binks of the anime, Misty's Psyduck was a whiny waddler that spent most of its time mouthing off. Even when Psyduck transforms into Golduck, it's hardly a top-tier 'Mon. Who'd have thought that all we needed to make Psyduck popular is to make them dance and chuck 11 herbs and spices at it?

On Twitter, video game analyst Daniel Ahmad claims that the KFC dancing Psyduck toy is currently going for $200 on eBay. The promo is part of China's Children's Day on June 1 - which gives either one of two Pikachu variants or a Psyduck toy alongside the kids' meal. Given the popularity of Pikachu as the Pokemon mascot, it's a strange turn of events that everyone is clamouring for Psyduck.

Even though we were originally sceptical, a quick search online confirms there are live listings for the KFC dancing Psyduck that have prices around the $200 mark. As with all of these things though, just because they're marked this high, doesn't mean someone will actually pay it. Plenty of these auctions end with joke bids where someone pulls out.

Why Is Pokemon Merchandise So Popular?

Much like how we saw Pokemon Cards going for $500 on auction sites, dancing Psyduck is following in their footsteps. Seriously, what is it about fast food conglomerates and their free toy giveaways that send us loco? If you want to nab KFC's dancing Psyduck for a little less, Ahmad says it can currently be found on the eBay-esque Taobao for anywhere between $3-$15. If you buy KFC China's big bucket meal, you'll get all three figures and a snazzy carry case to store them in.

You only have to search for #Psyduck on Twitter to see we're "quackers" for this little fellow, while the microblogging platform Weibo reports the same hashtag has clocked up over 25 million views in just a matter of days. Of course, someone also made a dancing Psyduck NFT in just a matter of hours. If you live in China, get Psyduck while you can. Maybe get a whole raft of Psyducks - yes, a group of ducks is called a raft.
