Hogwarts Legacy Art Book 'Confirms' Launch Date
Avalanche Software is hoping to cast a spell over us all with Hogwarts Legacy, but as the long-awaited open-world Harry Potter game comes with its world of wizarding woes, a concrete release date as become all anyone’s talking about.
Although an open-world HP game was originally leaked in 2018, it was Sony’s PlayStation 5 even in late 2020 that confirmed it as gospel. Hogwarts Legacy was supposed to release last year, but alongside Dying Light 2, Gotham Knights, God of War Ragnarok, and pretty much most big titles, it was pushed in 2022.
Even then, there were wild rumours Hogwarts Legacy wouldn’t be out until 2023 - which had us sending a Howler to Warner Bros. headquarters.
What Is The Hogwarts Legacy Release Date?

Since then, we’ve been unable to lock in an actual release date for Hogwarts Legacy. Those at the top have thankfully reassured us it will be out this year, and with Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore also coming out in 2022, some think an April release could be likely. That doesn’t seem to be the case, however, a Hogwarts Legacy tie-in book could give us a date to mark in the diary.
As reported by The Rowling Library, The Art and Making of Hogwarts Legacy is due for release on September 6, meaning the game has to release before then. The book plans to take us behind the scenes of the infamous school for Witchcraft and Wizardry, and we guess it will have some pretty major plot points.
Fans think a September release is likely, but in reality, it could be even sooner. Given that there have been so few updates and a lack of gameplay reveals, we doubt Hogwarts Legacy will launch alongside Fantastic Beasts. That being said, supposed industry insiders says a trailer is on the way. If this is the case, we bet a release date will be tacked onto the end of the trailer to get us hyped.
What’s Going On With Hogwarts Legacy?
Obviously, there’s a dark mark looming in the sky over the franchise thanks to the anti-trans comments of author J.K. Rowling. Warner Bros. has tried to distance itself from the drama, with the official Hogwarts Legacy site reiterating she’s not had any involvement. Still, critics have pointed out she’ll still make a small fortune off the title’s sales.
We recently covered how you can still be an ally and play Hogwarts Legacy, but it’s still a sad state of affairs that what could’ve been a perfect addition to the once-lauded world of Harry Potter games is living in the shadow of the Rowling scandal. Still, Hogwarts Legacy is tipped to be one of 2022’s biggest games. In a year that boasts Horizon Forbidden West, Starfield, and God of War: Ragnarok, that’s a lot of pressure. We’d better get back to practising our potions.
