Arrowhead Game Studios packs plenty of objectives into Helldivers 2, but there's one thing that players love to do more than anything else, and that's kill.

Kill for democracy, kill for mankind, kill for a giggle - it's the basis on which the co-op shooter stands, and the ability to do it with your mates is perhaps the greatest strength of any game. The Starship Troopers-inspired blaster is a treat for fans at launch, and there's still plenty to come.

Sadly, the team behind the latest shooter sensation has made its stance clear on the last thing Helldivers' sadist fans are waiting for - the chance to obliterate your mates. Sorry, we've got news about Helldivers 2 PvP.

Helldivers 2 rules out PvP

The position of Arrowhead Game Studios on the subject of blowing your pals into smithereens has been made clear. They think you shouldn't do it. Fair enough.

As a part of CEO Johan Pilestedt's ongoing communication about Arrowhead's plans and what fans want from Helldiver's 2, he has responded to a very highly-requested feature by shooting it down entirely.

"Hey; We'll 'never' add a PvP-mode," he says in a Twitter reply. "This is to reduce toxic elements from the community. We want an environment that's supportive, fun and where we are all fighting on the same side!"

It's hard to argue with the logic, as we've lost too many fun communities to the chance to riddle other players with bullets. Then again, most of Call of Duty's popularity comes from its PvP bloodbath.

Fans have reacted to the news in the replies, and while some are excited about the notion, others are claiming that the game's team is "scared." One disgruntled gamer said, "So sad to see another developer scared to add pvp to their game. Fewer and fewer titles every year offer it too 😞."

Others stand by Arrowhead, as someone said, "I definitely support you in this. You have a great thing going here. Add pvp near EOL...maybe." Another concluded, "Game doesn't need PvP. My friends struggle to not smoke me with artillery. That's PvP enough 😂."

However you feel about the confirmation, you're going to have to get used to it. Helldivers 2's focus will remain on bringing democracy to the cosmos, and the game may be better for it.
