Next Big Fortnite Crossover Has 'Been Revealed'

The next big Fortnite crossover has seemingly been revealed, with Nintendo's Metroid series ready to jump out of the Battle Bus and into our lives in a big way. Over the years, we've seen huge gaming franchise make the leap from consoles and PC, with the likes of Microsoft and Sony getting in on the action with their God of War and Halo skins in Chapter 2 Season 5. Season 6 has brought plenty more to the table with Lara Croft and Horizon's Aloy joining the fight, but out of all the crossovers, there's been a distinct lack of Nintendo names.

When thinking of Nintendo, it's too easy to fall into the trap of thinking it's just Mario, Pokemon, and Zelda that hold the house up. Alongside Samus, there's Donkey Kong, Kirby, Animal Crossing, and many more. Even though Nintendo tends to avoid sharing its toys, a Metroid crossover and Samus skin in Fortnite could be the start of a glorious friendship between the two gaming powerhouses.

Is a Samus skin coming to Fortnite?

So far, DC's Batman/Fortnite: Zero Point comics have been on the money with crossovers. After teasing the Dark Knight himself, a battered a beaten Batman swooped down onto the map. After this, G.I. Joe's Snake Eyes crossed blades with Batman in the comics and then arrived in the Fortnite shop. The crossover comic has been rolling out regular issues since April 20, with each one adding someone new to the party.

Even though Fortnite is usually a family-friendly affair, the comics have added a brooding Batman edge to the narrative. Looking closer at Issue #3, eagle-eyed fans think they've spotted Samus' signature suit of armour. In the image, it looks like Samus is alongside Street Fighter favourite Ryu and Chun-Li (who were previously part of Fortnite). We haven't officially cracked who the mystery character is, but we assume they'll also land in the shop soon. There's no denying it looks a lot like Samus' rounded shoulders from the Metroid games.

Should a Samus skin come to Fortnite?

Last year, Samus started trending on Twitter. Not because gamers thought Metroid 4 was on the way, but because the announcement of the hunter-packed Chapter 2 Season 5 fuelled the fires that she'd join the likes of the Mandalorian, Kratos, Master Chief, and Predator. Unfortunately, the season came and went without even a glimmer of her signature armour. Much like the delayed plans to bring Black Panther to the Fortnite fold, it's entirely possible that Epic rejigged its roadmap and decided to save Samus for an altogether bigger reveal.

Going against the idea that Samus is coming to Fortnite, the court case between Apple and Epic has confirmed she was due to come Season 5 alongside the rest of the hunters, but was ultimately cancelled for reasons unknown. It's been four years since Metroid: Samus Returns released on the Nintendo 3DS, meaning fans of the franchise are dying to know more. We're pretty sure Metroid 4 is out there in the clouds of Nintendo somewhere - it's just a case of when it'll be announced. With E3 just around the corner, and the Batman/Fortnite: Zero Point comics continuing to release, we're guessing Samus is putting a return to form in her crosshairs.
