We’re hitting the Scare Floor, as one horror hound has created an amazing Monsters, Inc. and DOOM crossover. While the Monsters, Inc. factory and the surface of Mars might seem a million miles away, someone has cleverly brought Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan to id Software's seminal shooter.
When it comes to Pixar movies, Pete Docter's 2001 masterpiece is considered one of the studio's very best. We've since seen Mike and Sully in the Monster's University and the recent Monsters at Work Disney+ series, meaning they've become icons in their own right. So, how did they end up in the crosshairs of Doomguy?
What Is The Monsters, Inc. And DOOM Crossover?
Posting on Reddit, u/bumpitybum shared artwork of a Mike and Sully-inspired Cacodemon and Baron of Hell. This isn’t the first time Mike has been compared to the one-eyed Cacodemon, but with this makeover, we get an idea of what a dark and gritty Monsters, Inc. game would look like.
Responding to the skins, other redditors were impressed by the concept. One joked, "Mike WaDoomsky," while another added, “Has anyone reskinned the Doom Slayer as Boo?” A third concluded, “I like this a lot. Only because I don’t like this. If that makes sense…" It made us think though, why hasn't there been an official Monsters, Inc. and DOOM crossover?
What's Next For DOOM?
From the humble roots of 1993’s DOOM, the franchise spun out into a trilogy. This was rebooted with 2016's acclaimed outing, which was then followed by Doom Eternal in 2020. We’ve already been teased that there's more to come, with reports of a female Doom Slayer being one option.
Discussing the idea of Doom 3 in the reboot timeline, Director Hugo Martin told Polygon, "While this is the end of the story arc that began in Doom (2016), we planted a lot of stakes in the ground with that story.
"And we've been able to flesh out a lot of those things throughout the course of [Doom Eternal] and to do two DLCs." Martin continued, "So that story arc will end, you know, from the time you woke up in the sarcophagus to the end of the DLC, but there are more stories to tell with the Doom Slayer, for sure."
For now, the Doom story has ended with The Ancient Gods – Part 2. Interestingly, there are reports that Halo Infinite could be about to add a Buzz Lightyear crossover thanks to some bizarre Warthog skins.
Personally, we'd pay through the nose to give DOOM a Monsters, Inc. crossover. Doom Eternal had the unicorn skin, so it's not outside the realms of possibility. While we keep dreaming, you could always go back to play the Monsters, Inc. Scare Island game on the PlayStation.
