When the Call of Duty community talks about the golden era for Battle Royale, most players reflect back on the OG Warzone and the iconic Verdansk map.

In the eyes of many, this was CoD at its peak, and nothing matched picking up your first-ever victory with the GRAU or Kar98k in hand.

However, not everyone agrees that Warzone holds the BR crown, with some fans arguing the best version came all the way back in 2018 with Blackout.

For them, Blackout was a "superior" Battle Royale, but Warzone fans counter that by saying they're looking back with "rose-tinted glasses."

CoD players argue Blackout was "superior" to OG Warzone

Taking to Twitter on October 19, popular Call of Duty account ModernWarzone argued "Warzone > Blackout and it's not even close."

As you would expect, this stoked the flames of debate within the community, with Blackout fans claiming the 2018 title had a higher skill gap and pushed players to take more aggressive skirmishes.

"Blackout required more skill, in Warzone ya'll got babied being able to have custom classes and s**t that's why people just camp," said one user, with another arguing, "Imagine blackout was given the QoL updates Warzone had."

For others, one of the biggest strengths of Blackout was that the "Map was WAYYYYY better" and the "movement was way more fluid," this meant the gameplay in their eyes was "superior" to Warzone.

Warzone fans slam Blackout supporters for having "nostalgia glasses"

Warzone Blackout

As always though, there are two sides to every debate, and Warzone fans argue that Blackout supporters are being clouded by "nostalgia glasses."

"Blackout is one of those things that seem nice in memory... Warzone blows it out the water," said one user, with another claiming "Blackout was amazing and was an awesome time... but Warzone took everything to a totally different level in terms of fun."

This appears to be one of those rare discussions in Call of Duty where the community is split completely in half. If anything, it just shows how much credit Blackout and Warzone deserve, as they both have fans willing to argue to the end of time that they were superior to the other.
