The decline of Call of Duty's multiplayer mode has been well documented over the years having ebbed and flowed through different waves of popularity ever since jet packs were introduced. With a dramatic drop in players during titles like Infinite Warfare being plugged by resurgent annual releases that see tides of fans returning, such as Modern Warfare, the franchise has finally realised that it's time to treat the entire community to a refresh and will be taking a year off to gather their thoughts.
But before we look way into the future, Vanguard's own scale of popularity has been a see-saw slalom and the developers have now ironed out all the creases in a hope that it will revive the multiplayer experience until Modern Warfare 2 takes the reigns in November.
Vanguard's Multiplayer Will Be Free To Play
Following the release of Season 2 Reloaded, in which a range of new maps and weapons balances have been added, the Vanguard devs are growing ever satisfied with how the title runs now a large majority of bugs have been squashed.
With such progress being made, as Vanguard's shelf life enters the halfway stage, the developers are now opening the multiplayer experience up to all Call of Duty players in a Free Access event spanning two weeks.
Those that are used to Warzone, or have yet to try out the World War II shooter having found much comfort on Black Ops Cold War, will now be able to access the game free of charge.
When Does Vanguard Multiplayer Go Free?
As part of a two-week-long free trial, players will be able to stay frosty on a range of limited playlists, including a mixed game mode list boasting the two new maps: Casablanca and Gondola.
Starting on March 30, and lasting until April 20, Vanguard will also be offering up its most popular maps to fans looking for a little bit of Easter magic, with a Shoot the Shiphaus-esque playlist being rolled out.
Whether you just fancy swinging into the game with the horror-Easter Bunny skin, or fancy getting drippy with the Snoop Dog operator, the Vanguard multiplayer free trial may just get allow you to get your groove back to a core game mode that yearns for popularity.
Vanguard's multiplayer experience will be the penultimate of its kind, and the free trial gives you adept time to fall back in love with the team-based elements of Call of Duty that paved the way for Warzone, and its upcoming sequel.
