Activision has confirmed the news that we've all been waiting for. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will see the return of Prestige progression as part of an elaborate plan to align the new instalment to the franchise with Warzone and Modern Warfare.

At the start of the year, Infinity Ward waved goodbye to the Prestige system that had been prominent in Call of Duty since inception, switching to a seasonal progression system which rewards players in each split with a rare blueprint. The move was met with utter dismay from the fanbase, who have been itching at the chance to get back on the grind to become a prestige master.

Ahead of the launch of Black Ops Cold War, the developers have now revealed a shared progression system between the three spokes of the wheel, which also includes Warzone and Modern Warfare.

In their blog post, Treyarch stated "Progression syncs across all games when Season One launches in December.

"Players will begin by completing Military Ranks, a traditional levelling journey to unlock functional gameplay items. Once completed, Black Ops Cold War players will enter an updated and improved Season Leveling that begins at game launch with the Pre-Season, and which becomes synchronized with all three games at the beginning of Season One on December 10th.

"Seasonal Progression has been updated with aspects of the traditional Prestige system, allowing players to unlock and use rewards, including some incredibly cool legacy player identity items from the world of Black Ops".

The Blog post also confirmed that Warzone will share both Modern Warfare and Black Ops Cold War weapons, which will see a huge variety of game styles on the battle royale mode.

Activision also revealed Nuketown '84, yet another classic rendition of the Black Ops 1 favourite, which looks insanely clean.

With this, you'll now be able to continue smashing your way through prestige whether you're sticking to Hackney Yard, plummeting in Verdasnk, or dropping Airstrikes on Nuketown '84, in the franchises' first-ever cross-game progression and prestige system.
