As Treyarch and Raven Software put Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War in their sights, the game's latest trailer has teased what's to come from the highly anticipated multiplayer mode. The Black Ops Cold War countdown trailer hinted at an impressive array of multiplayer maps ahead of the official reveal on September 9. The next chapter in the impressive CoD legacy is still a way off, but that hasn't stopped Activision cashing in on the hype surrounding this historical shooter.

When it comes to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, the fan-favourite Warzone and likes of the Verdansk map have made sure the 2019 title is just as popular as ever. With such an improvement over the likes of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, all eyes are on whether Cold War can raise the bar and make the most of multiplayer.

Cold War's Twitter has been a hub of activity since the game was officially announced, and now, the official multiplayer countdown trailer has teased the "next generation of Black Ops Multiplayer". There was a barrage of information in the Black Ops Cold War countdown trailer, so you had to keep your eyes sharp to take it all in. The clip is only a few seconds long and shows a series of red dots on a map of the globe. Fans have taken this as confirmation of where the multiplayer maps will be set.

Using our geography knowledge, the first location appears to be Miami. Given a recent release of a neon-splashed Miami map, this one isn't too surprising. Elsewhere, there's a dot over Nicaragua, which makes sense with the game's Cold War. The Nicaraguan Revolution started in 1978 and was a major part of the Cold War in Latin America. Other dots are in the oceans near Mexico and in the middle of the Atlantic, also backing up further claims one map will be water-based and feature players traversing between a series of ships connected by ziplines.

There's another dot on the border between Brazil and Peru, but it has everyone stumped considering the area had no real significance to the Cold War. The Black Ops Cold War countdown trailer comes after a streamer accidentally streamed live footage of multiplayer during an exclusive reveal event. During the stream, fans got a glimpse of a new mode called "VIP Escort" - which appears to be a remastered version of the "VIP" mode that was cut from Modern Warfare 2

With Black Ops Cold War rumoured for an October 8 beta release, there isn't long to go until we can officially start getting to grips with everything the developers have planned. Either way, multiplayer is sure to be one of the big pulls to Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and we can't wait to blow opponents apart around the globe.
