Around this time last year, the League of Legends Championship Series’ (LCS) Dignitas were one of the worst-performing teams going into the 2021 LCS Spring Split, not even making it to the Lock In playoffs The team looked discombobulated and lacked all forms of identity which got them counted out.

Once in the Spring Split, the poor performances continued until the season’s Week 2 where it all changed, making them the unexpected gatekeepers between the two halves of the LCS. This time around though, for 2022, Dignitas were once again counted out, but they immediately proved those thoughts wrong after they defeated the reigning LCS champions 100 Thieves in the quarterfinals.

It was a combined effort elevated team effort that helped them completely outplay the Thieves. And although their run ended shortly after with a defeat by the hands of eventual Lock In tournament winners, Team Liquid, Dignitas’ performance didn’t go unnoticed.

We had a chance to speak to one of the members of the team, Vincent "Biofrost" Wang following their game versus Team Liquid last weekend.

You guys were counted out by many going into the Lock In tournament, so how’d it feel to not only beat the reigning LCS champions but give TL quite a decent fight in the semifinals?

Yeah, I think it's a good start for us. Like, obviously, the spring split is still not here yet. We're just playing in Lock in. It's important for us to take this as a good learning opportunity so that we get off to a good start in spring. I don't think we're at the bottom like analysts think, we have the potential to be definitely a solid playoffs roster.

You’ve been around the block a bit since your first break into the LCS with TSM. Obviously, you were on TSM for one to two years, made a shift over to their old rivals Counter Logic Gaming for two years, and later returned to TSM for another year before moving down to the org’s Academy team. What’s it like to be in the LCS again, not only that but what’s it like being on a completely new org?

I mean, it feels great. I really needed a break after my last stint with TSM. I think it was just mentally drained by the end of it. So I'm actually grateful that I could come back after taking a break because that's not always the case with players. I just want to show a good performance so that I can keep playing competitively because this is my passion.

Piggybacking off of that, what made you want to join Dignitas? Apart from getting to play in the LCS again, was there anything that stood out to you specifically or anything like that?

Actually, during the offseason, I did not get that many offers for teams after taking a break. So I'm glad that Dignitas gave me a chance. I definitely think I'm still good enough to play at a very high level. So I'm glad that I'm back.

Neo made some waves last year down in the bottom lane while you were in the Academy scene. How excited were you to play with him once you started knowing about potentially getting to play with him on Dignitas?

I think Neo has a solid foundation where he's a very aggressive player: he likes to punish the enemy. I think we are aligned and how we think about bo, so that's great. Sometimes you can have some synergy problems, where for the most part, I think Neil and I have been doing pretty well.

Now that you’ve played a handful of games how do you view the duo of you and Neo versus the other bot lanes in the league?

I think we're in the upper half of bot lanes. I feel like we've shown that in our games. I'm pretty hopeful for us going forward as a bowling, and we haven't played too long together. But I'm confident that we can be a top bot lane by the end of the split.

Is there any duo in particular that you look forward to play against this season?

I think definitely Core and Han Sama, but they just haven't had many chances to play with each other. But I'm guessing that they would be the bot lane to beat.

You’ve had a lot of seasons in the LCS relative to some of the newer players in the league. With what would I assume each having its own goal. What are your personal goals for the 2022 season?

My personal goal is just to show good performance. I want Dignitas to go further than they have, and I hope that if our team we can achieve that together. I just want to show that I can definitely still scrap it out to the top and I have what it takes.

Is there anything else you want to say to the LCS fans out there?

Thank you guys for supporting me as always. I really appreciate it and glad to be back, and hopefully you cheer us on.

Biofrost and the rest of the Dignitas squad look to continue to impress the LCS during their first match of the 2022 LCS Spring Split against Immortals on February 5.
