Outside Apex Legends' major seasonal patches, Collection Events are the premier updates that the community gets most excited about. This is because these content drops tend to include map changes, limited-time cosmetics, and occasionally a fresh LTM.

Despite this, it's always the character-specific Heirlooms that generate the most hype, with each Collection Event bringing a mythic collectable with unique animations, voice lines, and rare interactions.

That was until recently, when Respawn started releasing recolours for popular Heirlooms and even universal items that any Legend can use, as seen in the Final Fantasy collab. This raised some eyebrows from the community about when the rest of the roster would finally get an Heirloom.

Unfortunately, a leak has revealed that legends like Newcastle, Catalyst, and Ballistic may never get their own Heirloom, as character-specific mythics are apparently being "scrapped."

Apex Legends leak claims character Heirlooms have been stopped

Taking to Twitter on March 15, reliable Apex Legends KralRindo revealed that a source had told them that "Legend-specific Heirlooms are scrapped" because "shared Heirlooms make more revenue."

Not only that, upcoming universal Heirlooms similar to Buster Sword will have customisable features that you'll be able to change. It's worth noting that these will cost money on top of the original Heirloom price, with total price estimations sitting at "700 USD" for all features.

While Kral couldn't confirm this information was "100%" true, it would least make sense from a monetary point of view. A lot of the characters who are waiting for their Heiorloom are not very popular. As a result, designing a mythic for them would not generate much profit for EA.

This is probably the reason they're pivoting to a universal Heirloom strategy.

An additional note from Kral revealed that Newcastle's Heirloom, which was in the works, may have been cancelled due to this shift to universal mythics. There was speculation the Heroic Defender would receive a giant sword or shield, but that dream for a lot of Newcastle mains may have just disappeared.

It's worth noting that according to the leak, this was "not Respawn's decision" and instead came from above, presumably EA. This will be a major concern for many fans who love character-specific Heirlooms, but as Kral mentions, this isn't a datamine and they are not the source, so it should be taken with a grain of salt.
