Alphari Reportedly Set To Join Team Liquid
According to a report by ESPN's Jacob Wolf, Origen/Astralis top laner Barney "Alphari" Morris is close to signing a multi-year deal with North American esports organisation Team Liquid. The deal would see the British star player earn more than a million dollars (~£760,000) a year while playing in the North American League of Legends Championship Series (LCS).
For Alphari, it would be his fourth organisation since joining his first professional team in Misfits during mid-May of 2016. While consistently being one of the best players in his role in the respective competitions he has participated in, Alphari has yet to win a LEC title, coming close several times in his career. The move to Team Liquid would be his first time playing outside of Europe.
The report further states that the LEC franchises Fnatic and Rogue had also been interested in Alphari. If the move was to go ahead, Alphari would be replacing long-time top laner Jung "Impact" Eon-yeong.
Team Liquid had managed to qualify for the League of Legends World Championship play-ins and later on for the group stages of the main event due to a strong performance in the play-in stage. During the main event group stage, Team Liquid came close to qualifying by going 3-3 in their group and beating finalists Suning and semi-finalists G2 Esports once respective, though ultimately fell short due to a loss against Machi Esports.
