I am extremely old. As in, just about to turn 30, so I haven't got long before I wither and break down into a pile of dust [Editor's note: I am already dust, and therefore resent this statement]. As such, certain things are becoming more and more of a priority in my life. Primary among them is my physical health, and in particular, my back and the wear and tear it has, and will continue to, endure.

I have spent a long time doing this job from some less-than-ideal seating arrangements. I knew it needed to change, and luckily the folks at Secretlab had the solution for me. Not only have they sent me one of their TITAN Evo chairs to check out, but it comes in a swanky Demon Slayer-inspired design.

GGRecon Verdict

Couple the excellent looks with one of the most comfortable chairs on the market, and you have a pretty incredible package. I understand the hype now and can give my fullest recommendation to the Secretlab TITAN Evo, especially these slick Demon Slayer models. If you are like me and spend a significant portion of your time at your desk, your future self will thank you if you invest in a TITAN Evo now.

A modern classic

The Secretlab TITAN Evo is extremely popular among gamers, streamers, and basically anyone who spends a considerable amount of time in front of their computers. Before receiving the chair I did my homework on why that was, and learned a lot about chair manufacturers.

From what I can gather from some ergonomic experts, among the most popular gaming chair makers, it seems Secretlab stands nearly alone when it comes to actually looking after your body.

I didn't want to simply buy into the hype, I wanted to make my own mind up. I put my sceptic hat on and did my own research, via my butt.

Putting it all together

A Secretlab TITAN Evo is not a cheap chair to buy, so you would expect a premium experience. From the moment the chair arrived at my house, the whole package exuded quality. Inside the box, all of the parts are individually bagged and wrapped in packaging that makes it very clear which part is which.

There are foam sheets in the box specifically for you to place on the floor when putting the chair together, so you don't damage your floor or your fancy new chair. All the tools you need are packaged with the chair, so everything you need is in the box. That also includes the instructions, which are printed on an A2 size laminated sheet. One side contains the instructions for the chair, the other is a large art print from Demon Slayer.

Putting the chair together was a breeze, especially for two people. Between myself and my partner, we had the chair assembled and ready to use in under twenty minutes. The only sticking point in the whole process was in attaching the back of the chair to the seat. Lining up the bolts proved a bit tricky, but no more than a speed bump in the whole process.

Taking it for a test drive

Once the chair was constructed, it was time to put it to work. The first and most obvious thing to note is, the chair is extremely comfortable. I wasn't sure what to expect, or how much more comfortable a premium chair like this would be, but I learned quite quickly.

Just sitting in the chair is a world apart from anything I have owned before. That's before spending some time adjusting the height, the tilt, the armrests and the back support to suit my needs. This, seemingly, is what sets a Secretlab TITAN Evo apart, you can dial in each aspect of the chair to your comfort.

I am not a small man. I'm quite tall, I'm quite broad. I wear size 13 shoes, I'm a big boy. When the chair arrived and I saw it was a medium size, I started to worry. Those worries were quickly assuaged once I sat in the chair. Not only do I fit comfortably, but I also have far more space than just about any chair I have owned before.

The backrest comes all the way up to my head height, and the included plush, magnetic cushion is right behind my head with plenty of room for adjustment. The cushion is one of the most startlingly great additions by the way, taking a moment to sit back and rest my head on it is a moment of bliss I can steal any time during my day (Don't tell my editor, I'm doing it right now).

Another level of comfort

Until now, I have never owned a chair that comes close to this, either in quality or in cost. That second fact is not lost on me and weighed heavily over my consideration of the TITAN Evo. As I began to use it, I was sure to be conscious of how it really made me feel, and not get swept up in the initial excitement of owning the fancy chair that all the streamers say is great.

I think the most honest way I can put it is this. The other day, I had a lot of heavy work to do out in the garden. Afterwards, my lower back was in knots. I came here to my office and sat in this chair to rest for a while. A little while later I got up, and only then did it dawn on me that the pain in my back was gone. That definitely did not happen with my old chair.

I knew that for someone like me, someone who sits at their desk for extended periods of time, a proper chair would be crucial to my physical well-being. With this Secretlab TITAN Evo, I feel pretty confident in saying that my rapidly ageing spine is in good hands, and will be for some years to come.

Aesthetically pleasing

Not only does the chair feel great, but it also looks great. I admit, I only have a passing knowledge of Demon Slayer, I have only seen a handful of episodes of the anime. That said, I have long been drawn to it by the aesthetics- the patterns and the colours of the outfits the main characters wear have always appealed to me.

The Demon Slayer range of TITAN Evo chairs has five models, each coloured and patterned to represent a particular character. Mine is the Giyu model. It comes with embroidered side sections that bear Giyu's maroon with a yellow and green geometric pattern design.

His sword is embroidered into the backrest, with the interesting feature that the blade turns blue with heat. Meaning the sword will be a metallic black colour at first, but after you sit in the chair for a while and your body heat transfers to the image behind you, the blade turns blue. Not exactly an ergonomic feature, but certainly one of the coolest things about this chair.

  • For something a little more understated, check out our review of the SIHOO Doro-C300 ergonomic office chair.

Maybe my favourite thing about the design is that it is quite understated. There have been many crossovers between products and properties that are appealing in and of themselves but may not fit with the surrounding decor. With the Demon Slayer range of TITAN Evo chairs, you have a broad spectrum of colour, enough to fit in with just about any design.

The Verdict

With the Secretlab TITAN Evo Demon Slayer range, you get a chair that is pleasing to look at regardless of context. You don't necessarily need to be a fan of Demon Slayer to find these chairs appealing, so your friends and family won't be confused when they see your chair. To me, this is the best way to do a crossover, something that Secretlab has shown many times to excel at.
