Amazon Games and Embracer Group has made the announcement that an untitled The Lord of the Rings MMO is in development by the team behind New World, giving fans of the iconic fantasy franchise another chance to dive into Middle-Earth.
According to the press release, the game is in the "early stages of production", meaning we don't have a lot of information to go off, but there are some details we can shed some light on.

Currently, there is no release date for The Lord of the Rings MMO, and we have no vague release window either, making it hard to speculate on a date.
Considering it's in early production still, it could be years away from release. The press release that announced the game also revealed that information about launch timing will come at a later date, so we'll make sure to update this guide once details are public.

Details about gameplay for the new The Lord of the Rings game are also sparse currently. We know it's set to be an open-world MMO set in a persistent Middle-Earth, meaning it will likely take some inspiration from New World, which was also developed by Amazon Studios.
The press release also confirms the game will feature the "beloved stories of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings literary trilogy", which means it could take place concurrently with the events in the books. However, both books take place roughly 100 years apart, so we're unsure how this would be replicated in gameplay.
The Lord of the Rings MMO platforms
The game's only confirmed platform so far is PC, though the press release mentions it will launch on consoles too. Considering we have no timeline on the release, it could be an exclusive for the currently unannounced next-gen consoles.
