Modern Warfare 3's player count fails to reach the heights of MW2 at launch
The player count for Modern Warfare 3 has fluctuated significantly since launch but has struggled to rival that of the previous game, Modern Warfare 2.
If Modern Warfare 3 wanted to surpass the player count of its predecessor, it still has a long way to go as the numbers for its launch weekend indicate that it failed to reach those heights.
Despite having something of a rocky launch, the devil is in the details with how the game is performing, and a player count for the launch weekend is the perfect way to see how MW3 is fairing compared to MW2.
What is Modern Warfare 3’s player count?
The player count for MW3 at its first 24-hour peak was 182, 765, with the count taken from SteamDB. While this only takes into account the PC players of the game on average, it shows that it hasn’t quite reached the numbers one would expect of a AAA juggernaut like Call of Duty.
Additionally, while this was the result of MW3's 24-hour peak when we checked the results, it had dropped significantly to an average of 169,728, indicating that it was struggling to maintain its audience even during its launch period.
What was Modern Warfare 2’s player count at launch?
At launch in October 2022, Modern Warfare 2 had just under 250,000 concurrent players during its launch weekend, meaning that Modern Warfare 3 has faced a significant drop since the previous game.
Several factors may have contributed to this result for MW3, including its reviews for the campaign, the rushed development cycle (it’s thought that we were going to see Advanced Warfare 2 before the team pivoted to MW3) and in-game tweaks that have seen a backlash from veteran CoD players.
Only time will tell if Modern Warfare 3’s player count will reach the heights of MW2 and will eventually pick up.
That’s everything you need to know about the current player count for Modern Warfare 3. If you’re looking for unique objectives, be sure to check out all the trophies and achievements in MW3.
