Getting started in Meet Your Maker does not immediately give you access to base building, you have to work up to it. Base building is a very freeform mode in the game - you have a lot of options so choosing the right ones for you is important. Here is everything you need to know to build a base in the game.

How to start base building

You do not have instant access to base building as soon as you start playing Meet Your Maker. You need to first put some time into raiding before you can have your own stronghold. If you go to the Command Centre you will have two options, raid or build.

The first time you go to the build menu, you are given several plots of land that you can purchase. This is why you need to do some raiding first, as you need the resources to purchase a location. Each plot has its own value, as well as a point limit that tells you how many items you can place on that location.

When you have enough material to purchase the site that you want, do so and you can begin constructing your first base.

Base building basics

Load into your new site to begin construction. You will start off with a random assortment of blocks, with your genetic material placed somewhere inside the bounds of the base.

You cannot control where the material is placed, and you cannot move it. This is your first and really only limitation, you must build your fort based on where the genetic material happens to be.

On the left side of your screen, you will see a list of controls. These are specific to build mode and show you how to do things like place items and even fly. To fly, you simply need to double-tap your jump button. This is extremely handy while you are constructing your base.

The robot that travels between the starting point and the genetic material will already be doing its thing, and you will see its path laid out on the ground. This is very important, the robot must be able to reach your genetic material. If it cannot, then the base will not be viable and you won't be able to post it for others to raid.

Press the build menu button (shown on the left) to bring up the list of items you can use. Regular blocks are very cheap, so feel free to place as many as you like. Most of your budget will be used up by traps and guards, so be sure to place them wisely.

Beyond that, it really is up to you what you want to do. So long as you make sure the little robot can make its journey, your base will be good to go. It doesn't matter how long or strange the path is, it just needs to be there. So be sure to fill it with traps and guards to take out raiders and rake in those points.
