When playing Hogwarts Legacy, exploring the world is all about discovery. For the most part, where you need to go is easily signalled to you with a handy golden trail leading the way, but there is the odd occasion where the game refuses to hold your hand.

One of the instances where this happens is during the quest The Tale of Rowland Oakes in Hogwarts Legacy. During this mission, you will need to think outside the box using Rowland’s map, and understandably, this can be a little tricky.

Disclaimer: While the creator of the Harry Potter franchise was not directly involved in the creation of Hogwarts Legacy, their comments on social media around transgender people are hurtful and dangerous given the size of their platform.

We’d implore you to read our explainer of the controversy so far, and consider supporting trans rights charities where possible.

How do you follow Rowland’s map?

After accepting this quest, you will eventually follow the objective to a goblin settlement, and it’s here you will be attacked and fend for your life, before exploring the area and discovering a map that possibly leads to Rowland’s location.

Unlike other objectives, there's no indication of where to go, and you’ll need to use your own detective skills to analyse the map and decipher the location you need to traverse to. If you're struggling with what to do next, the screenshot below shows exactly where you need to go when you have Rowland’s map:

Once you’ve travelled to the location above, The Tale of Rowland Oakes should continue and be pretty straightforward from here on out. If you're still struggling, we have a full walkthrough on how to complete the quest from beginning to end.
