The world of Pandora is gorgeous to explore in the latest Avatar game from Ubisoft, and you’ll need to do lots of double-jumping to reach the higher places on the map.

Just as it is in the films from James Cameron, Massive’s rendition of Pandora features plenty of trees and clifftops to traverse while embarking on your adventure. If you've not quite managed to tame your own Ikran just yet, there’s a handy double jump ability that you learn fairly quickly, as well as a few other tips you can use to maximise your Na’Vi’s mobility.

How to jump higher

You’re taught this early in the game’s opening sequence, but the longer you hold down the jump button, the higher you will jump when you release it.

  • When you press the jump button, look at the centre of your screen for a small white circle that will get smaller around your crosshair
  • Once this circle has closed in to reach its smallest point, you’ll know that your jump has charged to its maximum capacity

While climbing up cliffs across Pandora, hold down the jump button for a longer duration to ensure you’re getting the most height out of your jumps. Pressing it briefly is great for small hops over low terrain, but you’ll need to jump as high as possible to reach for those far-away handles.

Once you play through a certain number of main missions in Avatar: Fronters of Pandora, you’ll be awarded with a double jump ability. If you haven’t unlocked it yet, simply keep playing through the main story missions. It’s unlocked before you see the game’s title sequence, a few missions after you escape from the RDA facility.

However, while the ability is similar to a double jump, it’s more of an air dash that’s performed to gain more distance horizontally rather than vertically. While it’s not all that helpful in reaching areas that are high up, it’s great for traversing big gaps that you need a little more air-time to jump across.

To use the double-jump ability, all you need to do is press the jump button a second time once you’re in the air. This will see your character lunge forward in the direction that you’re currently facing.
