Xbox's deal with Activision Blizzard is expected to bring some pretty massive titles into exclusivity with Microsoft, which in many ways, is the strangest thing that's happened in the gaming industry.
A world where Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon might never touch a PlayStation console again is shockingly within reach, and many gamers expect that PlayStation classics will make a new home on Xbox. It looks like the process has already begun, but not how you'd expect.
PlayStation classics are landing on Xbox
Though PlayStation games coming to Xbox via the Activision Blizzard deal is yet to be seen, it seems to have been kickstarted by a brand-new cloud-based service that is bringing some PS1 bangers to Xbox for the very first time.
Microsoft has partnered with Antstream Arcade to add over 1,300 games to Xbox, including those from classic consoles like the PS1. The retro console has just been added to the service, which is a big win for emulation.
Titles from the Atari 7800, SNES and the Commodore 64 pepper the service, and the service features games you recognise. Even better, it includes games you don't, that you now have the chance to get familiar with.
Included in the new games coming to Antstream Arcade are Glover, MDK, and a few games in the Worms series. Although there are only two PS1 games on the service right now (40 Winks and Loaded), this teaser trailer implies we've got some more bangers on the way from this era of gaming.
How can I get involved in Antstream Arcade?
If you want to take these classic titles for a spin yourself, you can buy a year's access to Antstream Arcade for $30, or if you want to skip the teasing and go straight to lifetime access, you can do so for $70. Considering 87% of games released before 2010 aren't commercially available, this is a win for preservation.
You can bag both of these options on the Xbox Store, and frankly, it's a fair deal for a seemingly endless tap of classic games. After all, Microsoft is clamping down on emulating GameCube games on Xbox. If you want to catch up on some PS1 classics, there's no better time to get involved on Xbox. Blimey, that's weird to say.
