The once-lauded Gears franchise has sat dormant a little too long for our taste. Gears 5 revitalised interest in the shooter series and its narratives about buff dudes shredding baddies with chainsaw guns, but it didn't stick around for long in the public consciousness once players were done with it.

The days of Gears of War 3 acclaimed multiplayer are long behind us, and we've been holding out hope for a new title to take over for the current generation. Now, it looks like that game could be about to appear - if we can brace ourselves for it in time.

"People aren’t ready" for Gears 6, says leaker

A new post has appeared on ResetEra from someone who claims to have insider info on the upcoming mainline Gears game. They've suggested that Gears 6 is looking so good that players are unprepared. At least it sounds like it'll make the most of the Xbox Series X's grunt.

Responding to a comment about the visual fidelity of Hellblade 2 (a game that recently came under fire for a limited FPS), leaker Shinobi responded, "Wait until you see Gears. People aren’t ready lol."

It comes alongside Jeff Grubb saying, "I've heard some stuff with Gears 6 might be happening this summer," which was corroborated by The Verge's Tom Warren. Aside from some sketchy 'first details' in August 2023, we haven't heard much about Gears 6 in a while.

While it's very little to go off, fans are taking it and running with it. With it being five years since Gears 5, and this matching the gap between the third and fourth games, there are hopes that a reveal is coming soon. After all, Microsoft could do with some more exclusives right now.

Eager gamers have been theorising that Gears 6 could be getting an announcement during the next Xbox Summer Showcase, which is only a few months away from now. Some think it's optimistic, while others think it's overdue. Either way, the legacy of the Gears franchise has everyone psyched.

The Xbox slate is still pretty dry when it comes to announced games, with only Hellblade 2 to carry the torch right now - so maybe Xbox is holding onto Gears in hopes that it makes an almighty splash this summer. It's not a remastered Gears trilogy, but if the next game can live up to its own hype, it could be even better.
